I saw a somewhat vaguely similar thread but didnt want to hijack it because i think its a different issue.
So i just had the new engine put in. Has less that 1000 miles on it. As i was driving to work the engine oil temp was about 219 ish and i had to get on the gas to go around someone and it went up to like 234 and i got two alerts:
Engine coolant over temperature and sevice engine soon. Before i could really look at them they were gone. No check engine lights and nothing in the alerts on the app. Temp went back down to 217 and i got to work. Checked the coolant and it was at max no leaks or smell of coolant.
I was able to duplicate it on the rode home by getting on the gas while on the highway. Same scenario and it happened. Same alerts and both gone and nothing on the app.
anyone else experience thos issue? Im hoping this isnt engine replacement related. Anyone have any thoughts or guidance. Thanks i appreciate the input.

2.3 or 2.7?

System should have bled itself of air if you have close to 1000 miles on it. Not sure how sensors behave when the head lifts on these, but that’s what it sounds like is happening to me.

Did they replace the entire longblock?

If i had to venture a guess im thinking a fan isnt coming on or its the louvers or however the hell you spell it. The flaps in the front lol. Maybe something is unplugged. Will update when i find out.

I should also add the actual coolant is sitting at 4 bars (middle of the gauge). I know I've heard on here somewhere these aren't actual readings but estimations. Just figured id share in the event someone has experienced this too.

Sounds like a temp sensor is glitching out - either not plugged in all the way or wire intermittently breaking or shorting.

So, i brought my truck in for the camera recall. While there i told them about the codes, warnings and how its running hotter than i would think is normal. Brought it in last night (friday night). They had it all day today (Saturday) and didnt do anything to it. Got a text and they said they tried to duplicate yesterday by driving it and they would need my consent for an extended test drive and a $200 diagnostic fee in the event its not related to the engine replacent. Im pissed cause i had to rent a car because they didnt have a loaner and they didnt even do anything with it. Im condensing this for my sanity and everyones attention span but i feel like im getting the run around. Anyone have any constructive advice on how to proceed? Im usually a sarcastic cynical prick but i know to play nice when it comes to people who make my food, take care of my kid, or fix my car. Ive been a perfect and respectful gentleman but all the lies runaround and lack of performance, my patience is wearing very thin. Shouting out @Ducati1098 as he has always had good advice. Everyone else is welcome to chime in as well. I didnt want to start a mew thread for this. Thanks for the help guys and gals.

I’m assuming they checked for codes first? Did they say which ones it set?

Diagnostic fee is pretty normal. The dealership is just covering their ass in case it’s not warranty. Not sure what kind of factory warranty you have left, but if it’s still within that, I wouldn’t worry about the diagnostic fee. It will likely be waived when they figure out the cause of the concern.
Seems like it was pretty easy for you to duplicate it, so shouldn’t be that difficult for them especially on an extended road test like they need.

No codes thrown. He said they checked and there were none. Which makes sense since it was a warning that came up on the screen that went away within like a second or two after it cooled enough. I didnt see anything for it in the ford app for alerts either. And no check engine light.
No warranty left either. Im riding the engine replacement as the cause.

I guess my issue is im paying out of pocket for a rental and i hate thst they drag their feet and burn days with the truck sitting there while im paying for a rental. The engine replacement took over 50 days and thet included a trip to the body shop when they put a dent in the a pillar with the hood. So im a little jaded. Im probably going to pay the fee but im just overall bummed out by this service department.

Sent. Thanks!
Yeah it’s definitely setting codes. And these are codes that wouldn’t be erased, so I’m not sure why they’re trying to claim there are none.

I don’t know the whole story of why the engine was replaced, when it was replaced, when you got it back from the engine replacement, when you dropped it off for the overheating concern, etc.. but here is a break down of what I can see.

It looks like as far back as September 2 (36,073 miles) it started setting codes P05A2 and P05B1 for Active Grille Air Shutter A Control Circuit/Open and Active Grille Air Shutter B Control Circuit/Open.

These codes alone could contribute to an overheating concern if the shutters are not operating correctly.

September 3 (36,099 miles) it also then started throwing DTC P05A1 Active Grille Air Shutter A Position Sensor Minimum/Maximum Stop Performance, in addition to the other codes previously mentioned.

September 9 (36,332 miles) it flags another DTC, P059F Active Grille Air Shutter A Performance/Stuck Off, once again this is in addition to the other 3 codes listed.

September 15 (36,550 miles and the same date as your original post) in addition to all the other shutter codes it has been throwing every single day since 9/2, it sets DTC P1285 Cylinder Head Overtemperature Condition (which is obviously when it overheated)

Fast forward to September 21 (36,862 miles) in addition to still flagging these DTCs, it sets P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected.
Only 4 minutes and 2 miles later, it shows the codes were cleared.

Same day (36,874 miles) the P1285 overtemp code was set again.

And then September 22 (36,895 miles) in addition to the P1285, all the shutter codes started to set again, and have been present since then until now.

So I would assume if you didn’t clear the codes on 9/21, then the dealership did. And that means they were almost instantly able to recreate the problem already.

Regardless, the shutter codes are most likely the cause of your concern

Let me start by just saying i cant thank you enough. I literally breathed a sign of relief just and valudation that im not imagining this.

Wow thats more info than i have gotten from the dealer since i brought the truck in.

Just to give you some run down:

6/27/25 i brought it in for the engine valve recall. It got a new motor put in and i got the truck back 8/20/25 with 35592 miles on it. Have had the problem since then

So based on that i seems like all the shutter codes started after the engine was replaced. What do you think is causing those codes?
