TX has some of the lowest rates in the country. My renewal will be $77.25, but that varies a bit by county. Paying online with plastic costs an extra $2 "convenience fee." I sure hope our legislature doesn't decide to charge what some of ya'll are paying.

Ah I see no one from CO has chimed in yet, so prepare yourselves...

Ours is a % value of the MSRP, so going into year four of ownership this month mine is somewhere around $450. This year that's about to end it was $660, I think year two was somewhere around $1200, and the original purchase year it was right around $2k if memory serves

Yeah.

It's based on the value of the vehicle, so it goes down every year until it eventually hits a minimum.

My 2013 Ford Focus, for example, is at that minimum amount. Can't remember what the minimum is to be honest, all of my vehicles and trailers are bundled into one yearly bill and the Focus is a by far the smallest line-item on that bill.
Ooof...

I was a kid then so my memory may not be the best… but I could swear in the 90s in Georgia it was percentage of the vehicle’s value… 🤷🏼‍♂️
Used to be when it was Ad Volorum tax. Now it's a TAVT that you essentially pay up front so a costlier closing at the dealership, but renewals are $20/year for regular plates and $50ish for vanity plates.

Colorado here also, and we really get hit hard for vehicle registration here. Mine was around $1400 the first year, then dropped to $900 on year 2. I am almost due for the year 3 renewal, so I'm sure it's going to be at least $600.

For reference my other 2 vehicles are ~20 years old now, and the registration on those is like ~$65 because I've hit the minimum value on them.

First year was around $1300. $950 roughly if I recall correctly this year - for a '23 Raptor and Minnesota sets it on the value of your vehicle. If I lived across the border in WI it's like $150.

My wife's '24 HLE was a little less like $800.

My '91 300zx is less than $100 though and it's worth almost half of the broncos but it's based on what the state thinks it's worth. They don't know it's condition or that it's pushing 550Hp with a ton of engine and suspension work and luckily they wouldn't take that into consideration if they knew.

It's $20 a year for renewal. The one time up front title was a around 1k

You can deduct about half the CA fees from taxes (consult a tax specialist).

Also, some states make you pay property tax on your car every year. MA, I’m looking at you!

Iowa just renewed my 21 for $540. Iowa does % of MSRP plus a cost per curb weight. Price starts dropping after x years then hits a minimum. I didn't realize some states were so cheap.

$948 for my '24 Badlands Sas in Denver. Really enjoyed scrolling through the fees that make that total what it is. 🤢

I think mine will be $166 in Oregon when I renew next year, but $40 of that is due to the Smokey Bear plates I have. Our registration renewals are good for two years.

I can't believe the numbers I'm seeing. Agreed, it is crazy high here in Colorado. I thought I misread what this thread was about.

I will go first. California, 2023 Big Bend, Sas, 4 door: $648.00
when I left Kalifornia 30 years ago the registration fees were based on the sales price of the car. Is rhat still the case?

in Orygun, it has gone from $20/year to $98/year (but paid bi-annually so it is $196 every 2 years) plus a $25 DEQ fee.

Regardless of the price of the vehicle. A Porsche 911 pays the same registration fees as a Honda Civic. I think EVs get screwed in a different way, but since I don’t own one of those, I don’t know what their registration fees are.
