Ok, after reading the thread on suspension upgrades, I had pulled the trigger on these while they were on sale.

When I bought my Bronco, it came with a Rough Country 2.5" lift kit installed and 35" MTs from the dealer. Measuring everything before I started monkeying with it,. I was 40" from ground to fender in the front, and 39.5" in the rear.

Ford Bronco 4WP/ProComp 2.5 Coilovers install experience & photos before1

This is my first time doing coilovers. Install went ok - no big hangups. I dropped the lower control arm in the front. The front axle nut was on there good, but got those loosened - no obvious damage to the front axles.

The rear end the hardest thing was getting those stupid body clips out of the fender liner. I did finally figure out to just not use a phillips at all, just take a flathead, pull/pop the top of the screw out a bit and then pry the screw on it out with a body panel tool, then pop the whole clip out with the panel tool... much faster than trying to actually pretend the screw works like a screw.

The instructions for the 4WD/ProComp say to adjust the coil adjuster, measuring from the "charge port counterbore" to the top of the adjusting collar. The charge port happens to be right at the top of the threads, so I went from the top of the collar to the start of the threads. The counterbore itself is 5/8" or so, and it doesn't say top/centerline/bottom - and the diagram they have sort of lines up with the top of the threads -- so hopefully I was taking proper measurements, although evidence may prove me wrong (keep reading)

So the front coil has an adjustment range from 3/16" to 2 1/8", with a recommended max of 1 5/8". The rear has an adjustment range of 1"-2", with no recommendation. My thinking was, well I have a 2.5" kit coming out, I'll just start at 1 5/8" (the top of the recommended range from the front), and see what that does for me. My intention was to hit roughly where I was before, give or take, and figured if I was taking out spacers that were about 2" thick, starting at the 1 5/8" should put me roughly back where I started, maybe a bit lower, which would be fine.

I was wrong.

I did remove the old spacers, they are still on the OEM Hitachi shocks (if anyone is interested). After I got everything torqued and buttoned up, I was measuring 42" front and rear. 2" on top of what I thought was already a 2.5" lift, and not at the top of my adjustment range (if I am measuring appropriately). Not what I was intending.

I drove around a bit to see how they settled, they did come back down about 1/2". Total time working was about 6 hours, not too bad and everything was pretty accessible, even working on the ground with jack stands. The truck didn't have any excessive body roll and was well behaved on some dirt roads.

So, I am second guessing if I measured the coil adjuster correctly in the first place - I don't think I'm exceeding the 2" maximum for the rears even if I did, but I didn't intend to go adding lift to my rig. It could be I didn't really have a 2.5" lift to begin with - but I'm pretty sure it was the RC kit, it has the RC UCAs and the trac bar bracket that come with that 2.5" kit

I checked headlight alignment after driving a bit and figured I'd see what folks here thought before I went and dorked with it even further. I didn't really need more lift, the shocks do drive a heck of a lot better than the OEM Hitachis did. I am wondering about front axle angle. I don't do anything too extreme - mostly dirt roads, the occasional rut/rock/stump, but I also don't want to go breaking tierods or axles if I don't have necessarily need to because I have some extreme angle going on and don't know any better.

If it's just the same, I'd prefer to not have to go back monkeying with it and leave well enough alone. I'm pretty neutral on lift in general - I was fine with what I had before, I have RSEs so getting in and out isn't an issue, and I'm fine with where it sits now. It drives well now.

I think the angle is a bit steeper, but I don't know how much is too much. I'm going to get it aligned tomorrow (after monkeying with the LCAs). I can get at the adjustment collar without too much effort, so re-adjusting the shocks isn't crazy difficult, but not something I necessarily want to do just for the sake of doing it either if it isn't really that big of a deal. Looking for opinions here. I wasn't expecting such a drastic change in ride height.

Those angles alone look like quite a bit.

A spacer lift will provide exactly as advertised.

I believe the Sasquatch is 1.1" taller suspension wise than the Hitachis.

https://bronco6g.com/forum/threads/...ide-lift-heights-with-wheel-tire-sizes.17719/

So you started at nearly an inch and a half taller than the Sasquatch.

I personally am not a fan of lifting IFS more than 2.5 or 3".

I think the Bronco fits in that range. 3" over base is asking for trouble. People will chime in that they've been lifted 4" without issue, etc etc. But that is just my comfort zone. Ford actually specs out the maximum allowed angles of the CVs and tie rods, they of course are extremely conservative with their numbers.

Hmm good point, trying to find that. So far this is the best I've found:
https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/what-is-the-max-cv-angle.46336/

18 degrees max maybe? 28ish degrees for aftermarket axles?

Just using my phone and taking a swag measurement I'm at about 13 degrees right now while on level pavement, whereas I was at 5 before.

As mentioned above, put a few miles on and see where it settles and go from there. I ended up backing-off my Eibachs low as possible to be at 2" lift in the front, 1.75" in the rear and happy with my CV angles.

I'm about to take it in for the alignment, but figured if I'm going to end up lowering it back down a bit, I may as well do it before the alignment is done. Wasn't bad at all, just had to lift the tire up off the ground to get pressure off the coil.

Ford Bronco 4WP/ProComp 2.5 Coilovers install experience & photos coil adjuster

I moved all the coils in to 1" - the minimum for the rear end, and figure as it settles I'll adjust on the front to re-level. That, at least for the moment, dropped everything down to 40.5" from the ground, front and rear. So I'm still half an inch over what I started with in the front, and 1" in the rear - and sounds like I can expect it to continue to settle a bit over time.

This also brought my tie rod/CV angle down to 8° resting level.

While I had it lifted, at full droop I was at 28° in the front. After making the adjustment there was no change with the tire up, but I haven't rechecked since driving around the block.

Alignment results - it was out a bit, nothing drastic though but did require adjustment. Not surprising really, I've got 21k on it since the last alignment, plus monkeying with the LCAs and height. Will get some miles on it this weekend, and with any luck a trail or two.

Have you ever gone back and remeasured the height after giving the springs a chance to settle? The RC lift being around 40" is pretty high, my stock 2 door base SAS with mod bumper was at 38.75" in the front. Your 39.5" in the rear seems low for a 2.5" lift, my stock rear was at 40.25". My truck has had a pretty good rake to it since I took delivery so it makes me wonder if I have a shock mismatch from the factory. I have the 4WP/Procomp springs waiting to go on but I really don't want much lift in the rear so I figure I will need to set them at the minimum (unless my stock rear shocks are overly jacked up for some reason). I now have 37's so all the numbers are an inch higher but I can still compare to when it was stock with the 35's.

I forgot to mention I ditched the stock exhaust and run the 3" MBRP catback with muffler and resonator but it still seems a bit lighter than the stock exhaust.

@JL8jeff
Good question. I'll check it right now.

I did add a winch, and re-adjusted the front to get to about 1/2" rake.

Rear is 40" now, and still at the minimum setting for the rear collar, front is 39.5" and has been adjusted in some for the winch, but I didn't measure the adjustment. I probably have put 25,000 miles on them since I installed them.

I have the 4wp / Pro comp 2.5 VRST coil overs and upper control arms being delivered this week. I am going to 37's. and needed a base measurement to start from.

I finally got around to installing my ProComp coilovers yesterday and today. I still need to make some adjustments after giving them time to break in.

Update 4/5: I made a couple of adjustments and the fronts are around 41-1/2" and the LR is around 41-5/8" and RR is at 42". The RR has always been around 3/8 higher for some reason (with stock Sas springs and with the ProComps adjusted). So I picked up around 2" up front and 1" in the back. I just put the swaybar and skid plates back on so I'll see if the extra weights helps the front settle a little more.

The picture isn't quite a straight on angle so it's tough to tell but it's pretty level. I think the front will drop down a little as they break in since most of the weight is up front.

I finally got around to installing my ProComp coilovers yesterday and today. I still need to make some adjustments after giving them time to break in. Right now I'm sitting around 42" front and rear (with the 37" KO2 tires) so I picked up around 2-1/4" up front and around 1-1/8 in the rear. I still need to reinstall the swaybar and skid plates so that might lower the front a little but overall I'm happy with it.

Love those rims - we just got a set similar to that for our Bronco II

Hey Jeff! Could you do me a favor? Since you and I are closer to having the same setup, (mine having MT's, instead of AT's like yours), can you measure the center top of the tires to the center bottom of the actual metal part of the fenders, not to the fender flares, (since I don't have those anymore, LOL!)?

I have my measurements from the settle Bilstein SAS Metalcloak lift and I have the measurements of my wife's settled Bilstein SAS without a lift, but with actual 35's, instead of 315's. I'd like to try to get closer to how mine looked a year ago, before it dropped 2"+ in the front!

This pic was taken 2 months after installing my old Metalcloak lift, at the end of July 2024. It had settled a little bit and I was fine with it...., but...

This is the same lift as above, about a month ago... It looked awful... especially in person!

I'm getting right around 7.5" from the top of the tire to the metal fender itself. I think I still want to lower the front a little so that might get me down to 7.25" when I adjust it. The rear was also 7.5 so I'm pretty level at the moment.
