I'm wondering if a polyurethane clear coat will help prolong the life of the MIC top. It is used in swimming pools, playground equipment, flooring, etc where abuse and/or intense sun is involved and is available in satin or flat, ie:

Agreed. There tops are shit. Disposable item. Many will fail over the life of these vehicles. Ford needs to warrantee these longer. And yet, they keep offering them on new.

Yup. Then I look at the hard top from my 2011 Jeep Wranlger that has sat its whole entire life outside and wonder if Jeep keeps getting it right, how did Ford fail?

The end goal was to always get a soft top for my Bronco as I eventually did for my Jeep. But I never thought I would just throw the hard top away. I figured it would sit on a pallet next to my JK hard top for most of its life. Occasionally being installed for long trips or inclement weather as I do for my JK.

I suspect the problem tops never got destroyed. They just ended up on the next Bronco. To think that Ford would have destroyed years of hardtops seems naive.

Ford gets away with this kind of stuff because Ford owners in general have the lowest expectations amongst owners of all brand. If you have owned mostly Ford vehicles over your lifetime you will not really have much experience owning well made vehicles because Fords has always been below average to poor build quality and reliability. It seems like there may be a few good ones out there but I suspect most owners don't even realize they have some hairline cracks or honeycomb texture. That said some may not care about these kind of defects as long as the roof is failing and that's fine but for the money Ford is charging for new Broncos, these tops really should be higher quality.

I want a hard top for mine. And the OEM you can now order was top of my list.. But seems like they still haven't 'fixed' it. I don't know if anyone that's bought the top afterwards from ford has had them long enough to see issues, but I'm leaning towards not taking the chance and going for a turn offroad one. Only thing I don't like about those is that it's just 2 piece, and the front is a single piece. Not quite as easy to take off..
Or I just take it in the shorts (had this one for less than a year) and trade for a 2025 with painted hard top

I guess it depends on what the failure really is. Paint may not remediate any underlying issue with the nature of the plastic.

Still too risky in my opinion.

No way I would buy a Ford MIC top. Search this forum (and others)....what you on them is only scratching the surface. Like rats, there are way, way more problems. Spend your hard earned money on an aftermarket. From what I've seen, they look good. Oh, in case you need more motivation to NOT but the Ford plastic piece of shit, here's another pic of the same area, just different lighting. Definitely looks like delimitation along with the crack that's just starting to split open.

Remember, my vehicle is carefully hand washed, garage kept, AZ car. So no freezing temps, no snow, no ice. Spend your hard earned money on aftermarket. I'm stuck with the MIC top, already paid for it when purchased.

Ford owners have the lowest expectations? Hey now, that’s not fair! I expected my MIC top to last at least as long long as the excitement of bringing home a brand-new Bronco before noticing all the defects, and even that was too optimistic. But seriously, you nailed it. We shouldn’t have to play ‘Spot the Defect’ with these MIC tops. For what we’re paying, these tops should be way better..

Yikes. I have a 2021 but still only 19K miles on it. No cracks that I've seen yet, but I am expecting it. I agree with you about warrantee deadline. I opted for the 10 year extended warrantee when I bought it. This is no Toyota. I assumed there would be plenty of mechanical and electrical issues with Broncos as a new model from "Ford." I don't think my warrantee covers the top but there are many other reasons not to trust this car. I would be very afraid to own this car off warrantee.

I was just reading the 2025 Consumer Reports car review issue. As you'd expect, the Bronco is near the bottom of the SUV list for reliability. Wrangler is in last place. Jeep is the lowest ranked brand overall and Land Rover and Rivian are #2 and #3 worst. Ford is in the 44 percentile of 32 brands.

In year one with my Bronco, I had more trips back to Ford for service and recalls than I had in my previous 20 years driving two 4Runners.
