I have both a cheapy with bungees and jtops. The cheapy flaps a lot above 35mph and has gaps between the mesh and the roll bar at the front and sides. It is super easy to put the top back up, by just folding up the corners which are held with a magnet. The jtops is much better on the highway and has no gaps, but is way more difficult to put the top back on. You have to unlatch it from the middle where the aux switches are, then kind of roll it back enough to allow the brackets to seat into their spots. The jtops has a tendency to roll back while bringing the top forward so it's actually a huge pain in the ass to put the top on and off quickly. Once you manage to get it latches in place, it kind of sags in the middle. Also, jtops instructions only existed for the hardtop version when I got mine so a lot of things were unclear.

I have the 4 door mesh Ford top. I'm in central PA. It came with my Bronco when I got it (used). I took it off and likely won't use it again. It's in perfect shape. I'd sell it for cheap if you want to try it out. It doesn't interfere with the hard top and I assume it would be able to stay on with the factory soft top as well.

Problem might be getting it to you though. I'm in central PA (so not too far). How close are you to Philly? I'm there sometimes (including this weekend).

Big difference is that safari mode is free. Remove the back and side windows and you're all set. If you want open air, toss the top back and you're there.

Edit for clarification: It's not a product to buy. It's simply a way of using the soft top that you've already got installed.
I like to rock Safari Mode and combined with the dirty dog headliner there is no flapping at hwy speeds. 😎

Same here. I've also found that the DD headliner folds up and easily straps to the Mountains2Metal flip-down rack when I want to run with the top wide open. Nice having options

I installed the Dirty Dog mesh top (light gray color) under my 4 door soft top. NO flapping at highway speeds (79 mph) with the front section flipped back.
I leave it installed all the time.

For road trips, I lay a 50 x 70 Amazon $40 throw between the Dirty Dog and the closed softie for a noticeable reduction in highway noise. The Bronco is not what anyone would call “quiet”, but its quieter;,enough to listen to news programs and audio books if you wish.

I am very happy with the Dirty Dog, oh, and no gluing of velcro or drilling. Strictly a bolt on and snug tighten the several straps around the perimeter for a nice tight installation. A well thought out accessory that addresses most of the concerns expressed in this thread.

I never understood how a mesh top can even cost upwards of $200. I vetoed that Shh and spent a whole $39 on Amazon for one. Works amazingly well. Easy on, zero flapping around, great sun protection from front to back.Very well made. My buddy got one too and keeps it on all year under the soft top.

I do have to remove 2 bolts to put the hard top back on with the mesh in place which is no big deal since I’m already putting the other bolts in anyway.

Another shout out to Dan and Broncobikini.com. I have been using Version 1 for 3 years and it is outstanding. I can install it in under 3 minutes and remove it in about 90 seconds. I've done this countless times during the 4+ months of the year that I am lucky enough to have the top and doors off. It does not flap at any speed. It is waterproof if you forgot to check the weather and need to fly home in a pinch. In addition it completely blocks the sun and is ideal when it's 95 degrees at noon without a cloud in the sky. Even the dog finds the shade provided ideal. Lastly it is extremely sturdy and will help to prevent sagging if you throw on a Ford Soft Cockpit Full Vehicle Cover which I often do if I'm out of the garage during the summer and it might rain. Without the bikini eventually the cover will sag. With the bikini installed the cover will be flat and repel water in the heaviest of rains. After 3 years of use I can highly highly recommend the Bronco bikini product. I just upgraded to Version 5 which eliminated the small gap at the front.

I have done that as well. I don't actually mind the top all the way down, however, the kids in the back seat is another story. Haha I told them to deal with it, but it becomes more of a problem because they keep complaining about the wind in the back seat. I am still up in the air about getting one.

I got my Bronco back in August so I had some time to put the top down, however the kids get wind blown in the back seat (which is fun to see in the rear view) and the sun does make the seats hot as all hell. So, since nice warm weather will be arriving here in NJ soon, I am looking at getting a bimini top. Any suggestions from those of you that have one. I have looked at Jtops one along with some others. Just trying to see which ones are stable not too much flapping, also I would like to leave it on and just close the soft top with the mesh top still attached. Thanks in advance.
I went with the JTop. I’ve had it for 3 years. No issues.

Rereading my post I think I confused things. I was describing 2 separate modes.

Safari Mode has the soft top closed but the rear 3 windows removed. Basically the same as a bikini top but with full sun shade. Lots of airflow but nothing battering the people in the back seats. This is our preferred way to drive when the weather's nice and the kids are with us.

When running like that, it's a couple of seconds to flip the soft top all the way back and enjoy a night out after dropping the kids off with the grandparents. :)

Gives the best of both worlds without any expense. I also found that the more I've removed/installed the rear windows, the faster the process is so it gets more convenient each time.

Regardless, I'm just ready for some nicer weather. Winter always seems extra wintery around here as February drags on.

I have tried that and it is a great way to get around. Does still give that open air feel.
