I am brand new to this. I am looking for bigger/wider tires but not much increase in ride height. My BD presently has stock 265/70R17 tires and stock steelies at 17x7.5.

I saw a YouTube installation I really liked the look of. 16x8 wheels on 285/75R16 tires. This only increased height by about one inch but gave a more aggressive tire look size and width with no lift needed as one inch smaller wheel. Still has good space in tire well.

Key point, this person also had to add the wider SAS fender flares (which gives a wider stance I like so I don't mind) to just cover tire and I don't like poke.

Any thoughts on wheel offset for this set-up? I was figuring similar to SAS, which is 30mm, but the SAS wheels are one half inch wider. Also really hard to find 30mm or so aftermarket wheels.

Any thoughts on offset, tips, ideas? Thanks!

There are a few brands that offer +18mm and +12mm offset that would be the sweet spot for no poke w/ the squatch flares running 285s. Or you could run a 1" spacer on a set of stock Base 16" steelies (+55mm) to get you very close to +30mm and keep the no-squatch flares.

If a particular tire is important to you, make sure you can get it in a 16", The selection is much smaller than 17", although still pretty good.

Just in case you want to see a Black Diamond with 285/70R17's on stock wheels. I have the aluminum wheels but they are the same spec as the steal. No lift or mods.

Appreciate it. There are K02s and K03s in 285/75R16.

Looks great! I want to save the extra inch with 16" wheels as easier to slide in and get a nice offset with SAS flares to give the wide look. Nice rig! Love my 2 door top off too.

Just making sure you know the overall diameter changes with tire aspect ratio - a 16" wheel COULD have an overall diameter more / less than 1" from a 17" wheel depending on the aspect ratio of the tire installed - dont get hung up on weather its a 16" or 17" inch wheel - look at overall diameter of the wheel/tire

As an example - your 265/70/17 = 31.6" - the 285/75/16 = 33"
Yep. Just looked that up. Not a prob for me. The SAS is tough on my back (taller tires on 17s plus 1" lift), so 1.4" taller tires/wheels I am looking at will be fine as I am 6'1 with long legs I will slide right in. Will have a sidewall almost as tall as SAS and a thicker tire than my BD sticking out further with offset/spacers further out for that wide SAS flare look.
