This is getting out of hand. First off I don't tailgate people. The debris from on coming vehicles has been the cause of multiple broken windshields. I have owned a 22 Bronco 2dr Badlands and it had 3 windshields crack in a period of 2 years. I was able to trade that Bronco in and order a 24 Everglades. I have had the Everglades since April 24. I was on my way to the dump and an on coming harvest truck had some grain come off the top of it. I heard something hit the windshield but the impact was not very loud. About 5 miles later a crack appeared from the top on the passenger side. Has anyone had better luck with a windshield than is not a factory one? At almost $1k a windshield, that adds up quick.

Side not. I spent 21 years in the military and in that time I only had to replace 1 windshield in my vehicles.

Thanks
Brian
Hey Brian! Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble keeping these Bronco windshields intact. Have you heard about our Windshield Protection Film? A few years back we created ExoShield ULTRA, an 8mil protection film that goes on the outside of your glass to prevent exactly this damage you're experiencing!

I leave a massive distance between myself and the vehicle in front. Within the first month of ownership, my windshield had two pronounced chips. I put on the Aeroskin hood deflector and that seemed to help- haven't had a chip since and it really cut down on the bug splattery.

I also go out of my way to avoid driving near any vehicles with exposed tires (fenderless, or such as those absolutely atrocious pickups with offset deep-dish wheels and rubber band tires, which is the worst automotive trend of all time along with squatting and I do not care who this offends). They are notorious for launching rocks and other debris up in the air that a fender would normally deflect downward. I'd rather see early 2000's "rice" make a comeback than endure another year of side-mullet WhistlinDiesel-wannabes failing to maintain lane, littering the roads with PBR cans, and sandblasting my paint.

I cracked my 1st windshield about 2 years ago. Had it replaced on a Friday, and the following Monday caught a rock and cracked the new one. Since then I just keep Rain-X Windshield Repair in my Bronco. Catch a rock, fill the crack, move along. 🤷‍♂️
Best advice I've gotten in months. Bought two at walmart for $20 and used one on the bronco immediately. Highly recommend.

3 years, 9000 miles, no chips or cracks, tell myself the hood deflector is saving it!

I have the same one. It made a world of difference. I did have to put weatherstripping foam along the hood body line though because of the insane whistle the deflector produced. Fantastic after that.

Welp. Made it almost six months without a broken windshield. The rural road got me today.

What does serving in the military for 21 years have to do with replacing a windshield?

This is not a ford bronco exclusive issue, any vehicle with a straight vertical windshield is easier to chip, crack. Buy the extra insurance or do what I did and buy a glass replacement plan with your dealership. It pays for itself.

I've never owned ANY vehicle that didn't need at least a couple chip repairs. Even cars that aren't rolling bricks, hah.

I'd be interested in a heat map of windshield replacements and frequency. I assume certain regions of the country are more prone to rock chips depending on local industry.

I also refuse to drive anywhere near an excavator being towed. I'll do 95 to get ahead of it.

20k on original windshield. Never cracked any windshield that wasn't my own fault.

I always get chips on my windshields but the Bronco seems to be worse about the severity of the chips and cracks. Probably due to the flat upright nature of the windshield. However, it has gotten two of the weirdest cracks I've ever seen in a windshield. They were pretty hefty hits that produced the crescent moon shaped cracks you see in the pictures below.

Exoshield Ultra installed after two minor chips in my first year. So far no major hits, though I wonder if they seemed minor in part from the shield. Fairly easy install, few bubbles I couldn’t get out. Will hopefully do better with the next film after this one gets scratched up.

Some people don't like the deflector, but I can honestly say that it really reduces the bugs and debris from hitting your windshield. I think it looks great and a lot better than a cracked or chipped windshield..maybe I'm not as cool as the cracked windshield guys but oh well....
