The power ratings were dropped to comply with net power instead of gross power ratings by SAE which didn't even have the engine running an alternator.

https://ateupwithmotor.com/terms-technology-definitions/gross-versus-net-horsepower/

The funny thing is that a lot of measuring-contest-guys are real happy with their out-of-date technology in their TWO cylinder engines. Ford should've just lied and said it was a small V8 so everyone complaining can put their junk back in their pants and drop the rulers.

@Mopar2Bronco2021 - 30 more HP and 50 more TQ than the 2009 RDX, btw. I understand the freeway passing concerns, though.

V8 fans be like:

Ever hear of an engine called the k series? Its made by this small company based out of Japan, that some models of the engine can hit 467hp on stock internals, and go for 100k kms.

you gotta really open up your mind to new things.

Ok, so put up your tens of millions of dollars and see if one even fits and also get it to pass federal safety standards...and then face off against CARB and let us know how that went.

The 2.7 puts out matching HP and better TQ than a 2014 Expedition V8 at half the displacement (5.4 vs. 2.7). The reason why people go back that far is because the last big engine in a Bronco was the 351W and the same complainers were happy with that. Going back to history isn't fake news. I had a 5.0 Coyote in a Mustang and my friend in college had a Saleen Fox Body...at some point it's just a pissing contest.

Saying that the power levels to move two-and-a-half tons that was acceptable and even raved about for 50 years suddenly isn't good enough isn't a rational conclusion.

*Note: I intend this as civil. I also would have liked the sound of a V8 engine. I chose the 3.5 EcoBoost in my F150 over my beloved 5.4 Triton that I had previously after driving new models back-to-back, the 5.0 vs the 3.5 and it was an easy choice from a drivability standpoint. I miss the Coyote for sound, but not for any rational reasons.

It's Honda, and they've been in everything from the element, to the odyssey, and RSX. You can run them on stock internals for boost build for 100s of thousands of kms SAFELY on

100S of thousands of kms. I had a friend who's kseries build was ~476hp, thats +300 from stock. Didn't blow until 400kkm

It's the honda kseries, you can boost and tune them safely on stock internals for +300hp on some models. They also stuck this engine in everything. K Series engines have been beating tuned V8s across the world reliably for years.

You can't get a v8 in bronco from ford :(

Just sharing what I4s are capable of in a thread about the capabilities of a I4 engine. Please stop changing the goal posts

I guess I misplaced my citizenship in Iraq?

This wasn't a SCOTUS case over "there's no replacement for displacement." The argument was made that the 2.7L didn't give enough confidence to move two-and-a-half tons and I brought up many V8s that made less power and moved as much if not more weight and people were happy with that performance. It's just an objection to cylinder count and an ignorant fear of turbos by most, but you seem to approve of forced induction so what's left? Cylinder count.

America started out with slavery for almost the first one hundred years and used nukes on a country that didn't have that capability. Fair is not inherently American, but we keep working on it.
