Recently while enjoying the topless life an unexpected rainstorm rolled though. I improvised at work and haphazardly tied a Kelty Noah’s 12 tarp over my truck.
Today I made some improvements by adding a center brass grommet, reinforced with two layers of rip stop repair tape and cut down an adjustable camp tarp pole for support. I also cut off the steel D-rings to keep them off the paint and added a few crappy carabiners to help with set up. The front PP cord simply loops around the fairlead, the two sides wrap under the vehicle and clip onto the sliders, and the rear just clips onto the lower edge of the bumper.
It’s not perfect by any means but not bad for stuff I just had laying around. Should be fine for occasional unexpected / short rain showers while parked at work.
I have about a 45 min commute each way and love having the top off. I actually don’t mind driving with the top off in a light rain, the wind keeps most of the rain off the dash. However having it parked just sitting in the rain is a no. I’ll probably just leave this in my office and deploy it as needed.
