That coin has two sides as well....

Just like you REALLY want that build, come resale time, post it on national markets like cars.com and your buyer will find you.

My neighbor had a manual Acura sedan for sale. It didn't take long.
His buyer moved very quickly to close the sale and drove a fair amount to get there because it was "The One" he had been looking for, the rare six speed manual..... Priced at a fair market price, the guy didn't haggle because he wanted THAT car and wasn't going to risk losing out on it.

If you get in a hurry, you MIGHT have to take a hit , otherwise the value pretty much holds the same as an auto.
It's really a matter of finding the buyer.
Facts. For example, when I bought my Super Duty (used) I wanted a 6spd manual V10. A lot of SD buyer wouldn't want either of those. Once I found the truck I drove 400 miles and paid a premium.

There were a lot of manual 2dr Badlands ordered. There's a segment that had to have them that way and there will still be those people 5 years from now.

I love when people try to convince others that they don't really want what they want.

You want the lux and you need to step up to the Badlands - get it or you'll regret it if that's what you really want. No one can tell you what you need/ want and makes you happy.

You want the Manual - order it, too hard to find and not worth the extra wait, done.

Color - get what you like, Broncos are not like most cars, they're like Jeeps, people do buy the more colorful ones.

You want 2 doors - again order it and don't look back. No they're not as popular because a lot of people have kids, but there's still a market for sure.

When it comes to resale, and bang for your buck, I think the lux package won't return as much, percentage wise, but that wouldn't stop me (and it didn't). As far as engines, time will tell if the 4 banger or the 6 will be more in demand, as of now, I don't think it matters. As far as the rest, like someone else said, there will be a buyer looking for that combination.

Bottom line, life's short, get what you want, the difference in 3 to 5 years won't mean that much.

☝

This, order exactly what you want, sounds like you can afford to be picky so why not. I think it's something like 10 or 15 percent for manuals and 2 doors so yes, the market is small but fierce and unlikely to cease. To mirror another post, advertise it nationwide at a reasonable price and your phone won't stop ringing ... that's if you even want to sell it by then.

Good luck!

Hey all --

I am currently in the market for a Bronco. It's going to be a weekender toy. It's only gunna hit pavement for weekend drives and hopefully most of the time just to get to the trail. But, I am not yet skilled enough for high technical trails with things like rock crawling or water fording, etc. and I'll be honest and admit that I probably don't have the risk tolerance for super technical trails anyway.

What I am looking at getting is a 2DR Badlands with a manual and the lux package, because I love manuals but I also love creature comforts. I don't plan to do sasquatch because the Badlands has most of that and is equipped well above my skill level/risk tolerance already.

I've noted that this configuration basically does not exist anywhere near me despite being near world class offroading (Colorado Rockies). The only 2DR manual within a 100 miles of me is at the dealer only because someone ordered it (hah). It's also "just" a black diamond. Even 2DR autos are pretty rare near me.

My original plan was to get a lower trim, because I will never fully utilize the offroad capability, but Ford decided to only put the high creature comforts on the high end offroad and/or 4DR models.

My plan is to keep it for only 3-5 years and then sell, but I am worried this configuration is going to be a bear to resell for a decent price. High end 4x4, manual with lots of creature comforts. What do you all think?

Thanks
If all you are thinking about is selling it, probably just find a used one.

You can lease it. Ford's Red Carpet Lease evaluates your vehicle at lease end and permanent mods don't void the lease. It will be assessed like a used vehicle and if you devalued the vehicle with the permanent modifications, then you may have to pony up the difference. That's the major risk you take, but as long as you're not putting it through stupid mods it should be fine.
I’ve been around the block with leasing and you’re technically correct, they’ll evaluate what the car is worth at lease end and compare that with what it’s on their books for. But, if for any reason It’s worth less than what they’ve depreciated it to, they’re going to look at why. And if they can pin it on a modification or two they will. The problem with mods are that everyone’s taste is different for modifications. You may live chrome wheels, the market may not. That’s a resale value issue. You may invest in a bangin sound system. The market will see that as a repair nightmare and ding the value accordingly. If you plan on modding, buy it. And buy it used so someone else has already taken a hit on the depreciation.

That's the configuration I bought. Paid 46k new in Feb 22, a recent carvana offer was 28k. I think I could probably get 35k pretty easily on the open market.
I think the ford price increases might be holding the values up a bit higher still. Be curious to see how things depreciate as time goes on and hopefully the prices increase stop or become insignificant

My 23 is still hanging in at 46k from the dealer and 43.8 from carvana. Purhcased for 51k Dec of 23

to the OP - if you can swing it, buy / lease it and get what you want. Enjoy the truck and use it. No telling what market conditions will be like in 4 to 5 years so don't worry about things you can't control!

Buy what you want, not what someone else would want in the future. Buy it for you. There will always be someone out there that'll buy it in the future. However, once a vehicle has mod's made to it, you may have fewer people interested in it in the future. But again, buy what you want, and mod it the way you want it. You're buying it for your enjoyment.

After owning 9 jeeps and three Broncos.

Lessons learn, need to look at what happen to the Jeep. After their 4 door wrangler came out the 2 door sales started a decline. Now the 2 door sales are almost nonexistent. Just saying…

I have a 2021 2 door badlands high 7MT, MSRP $47K, 6K miles. Carmax offered $35K when I checked end of June.

I own 2 such unicorns, and have zero interest in any other Bronco per se. I may be the "exception" but i'm not the only one. Resale might take longer to find the "right" buyer (a guy like me), but that buyer knows what they want and is usually prepared to buy on the spot, and ship if needed. If it's purely a toy then go for it!
