Is there any interest if I modified this bracket to effectively remove the molle grates putting the traction boards closer to being flush with the rollbar? I haven’t ventured down this path because I believe it would block your rearview mirror. The only other option would be to make it articulate which would add a lot to the price.

The biggest challenge as is is that the soft top cross bracing follows the curve of the roll bar when you retract to the fully retracted position.

I think you are on to something 🤔

I've been hoping for awhile you'd consider the flush option for soft tops. I wouldn't mount boards full time, and rear obstruction is less of a concern off road.

I have been pretty happy with this setup, as it mounts the boards solidly to the tire with easy access if needed. The roof wasn't an option, both kids, and myself, prefer to explore the state forest by us with the roof of.
This is how I mounted them. I didn't want them horizontally across the top of the tire, although that would have been even easier. I drilled new mounting holes to lift the boards and give clearance to the bumper. The plate was designed around Maxtrax boards so the pins bolted right on. I have been out in the woods and mud holes a few times, they haven't move moved and they don't rattle at all.

I mimicked this same install setup using an accessory arm on a tailgate reinforcement panel (HammerBuilt) - and when on the trails, with two boards mounted, I get a lot of flex. Those boards are readily shaking side to side in response to the terrain. Do you have that issue at all with the secure to the tire strap?

I wanted an option that would at least require someone to have planned tools wiht them to walk away with my boards, so I didn't look at tire straps as a viable option initially.

I added the Hammer Bilt reinforcement kit with the Maxtrax plate ordered (still in R&D. While waiting for the Hammer bilt plate I was able to mount the RacksBrax plate for now.

I have the Overland Kitted bracket mounted to the Hammerbuilt accessory arm to the Hammerbuilt reinforement - and with 2 boards mounted - similar position to your photos - when on the trail, I have a lot of wiggle side to side for the boards. Do you get movement when on the trails with your setup?

I don’t have any flexing issue. The mounting bracket takes care of any flex.
Whenever I install mine, I fold the extra strap up inside the ratchet and then lock that closed with duct traps ( the big ones for driveshafts). I know it won’t really stop anyone from stealing, but at least they’ll have to work a little to get them off.

In these photos, it looks like the tire strap bracket is closer to the center of the maxtrax mounting bracket - where do you position this on your tire in this setup?

It is mounted vertically on the passenger side of the spare. The bracket is mounted off center as to allow clearance between the boards and rear bumper.

@Stick355
In this pic, the mounting point looks to be closer to one of the outer handles (to clear the bumber when mounted).

In the unintalled pic, the mounting point appears closer to center.

Is the difference just the camera angle?

I did the exact same thing last year. Great setup. If you have them, could you post photos of the mounting hardware and hole configuration? My holes don't line up well and it's a bit of a wonk job. Maybe you figured out something better.

I don’t run that set up anymore, but I think it was something similar. I used the carriage bolts made for the rotopax

Finally figured out how to effectively mount these on the spare. I had previously used my Rok Strap solution with my old Jeep, and was able to attach those directly to the spare wheel spokes in a way that kept the traction boards on there solidly.

However, the spoke design of the Sasquatch OEM wheels, as well as how tight the spare is on the tailgate, made that approach unworkable. It also wouldn't work without blocking the rear view camera, which was in the way.

After a bit of tinkering and staring at some of the other spare tire cargo solutions out there, I found that adding only a single ratchet strap would make this work, because I could then attach the Rok Straps directly to the ratchet strap.

A 10 foot by 2-inch endless loop ratchet strap from CustomTieDowns.com was only about $12 plus shipping, making this whole solution about $35 plus shipping.

It's simple, lightweight, strong, and doesn't block the rearview camera, rear proximity sensors, brake lights, nor the driver's rear view out the back.

The ratchet strap also doubles as a perfect-length strap to carry for setting tire beads on the trail, and I think more things could be attached to that core strap to carry more gear on the spare.
