I am super stoked to say, I officially pulled the trigger on the 74 Weld portals and should have them shipped and installed within the month…. I have a 2021 4 door Badlands with Sas. I previously purchased the Fox 2.5 Performance Elite shocks and some ICON uppers. They are trying to figure out if this will be a doable option, or if I need to go with the fox shocks that are on the Wildtracks for the best performance and set up. I plan on running the 38 inch Nitto trail grapplers with this set up. So excited for this install!!!
I believe @Tor148 is running the 2.5 fox shocks.... he can confirm if they are the performance elite or not.... I am running the 2.5 Kings with the Icon upper.... I would think it should be doable.

Welcome to the club!

Yes I am running the elites, with Camburg uppers. Seams to be fine so far but just put it on the road last night. Gave me a little more height than I expected but doesn't seem to be to much at full drop but only time will tell.

Thank you, and what a great club to join!! So with the Fox and King shocks, did you add any lift with them, if so how much and was there any issue adjusting the camber or caster? I was hoping they could adjust the shocks down so I would be at stock height before the portals and it would get the benefits of running as if it was stock. I’ve been talking to the owner of the shop that is doing my install and they are in touch with Quinn and reaching out to someone at Fox for their opinion on these shock on a portal set up.

I know my Kings will not adjust down... Fronts are at 0 preload and I get about 2-2.5 inch of suspension lift. I do have about 2 inch of preload on the rears so that it sits and rides level. It rides awesome! I am still coming to terms with how improved the ride is... You however are already on the Fox shocks.... You will feel the additional unsprung weight. I know I do. I may be weird but I like the feel of it. But then I wear really heavy mountain boots at all times... even with a suit (I even have a nice clean pair to wear with the suit... really) I like that extra weight on my feet. Most people like as light a shoe as they can get..... Only analogy I can come up with at the moment that helps me describe the additional unsprung weight feel.

I’m not in those shocks yet, both the shocks and control arms are sitting in the garage as I recently got them last month. I’m sure selling them won’t be too big of an issue since they are new and I got a great deal on them both, but I’m hoping to use these shocks.

Don't sell em! No, Keep them! put them on!!!... It will be a total eye opening experience! You are going to love this! The performance elites have the lower speed AND upper speed adjusters.... You and TOR need to adjust and discuss what setting to set them at... (you are 4 door and he is 2 door....) but there should be some fun discussions on those settings. they are a little more adjustable than my Kings... I have a single speed adjustment.

I really, really think the 2.5s help with all the unsprung weight. I do not have that many miles on it yet but so far it feels really planted and controlled. I do think a lot of that is coming from the 2.5s.

Congrats! So this seems like they've got stock ready to ship, getting it that quickly. I wonder if that means they're into production mode or not.

I really do want to make these work out. @Tor148 , how did you set yours up? Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks

You guys are making me feel "pedestrian" for still using squatch bilstiens! I think a coilover upgrade may be the final cherry on top of my build! @5GENIDN do you have exact tuning specs for what accutune did to your Kings? Seems like they nailed the tuning, and my build should be similar enough to make it as simple as calling them and saying "just do what you did to this guys shocks!"

I liked the ride on the Bilstein's.... I do not know how they handled the extra unsprung weight. If they feel like they did before the portals then you have an excellent ride! I feel that unsprung weight under there. All I can say is the 2.5s are handling it exceptionally well. I should ask you, how are the Bilstein's handling it?

I do think my ride quality has improved. How much? well that is subjective and hard to quantify. The Kings actually extend too much. Just enough to bind the CVs, so Accutune put 0.3 inch shims inside the bottom of the fronts so they would not bind the CVs Then they replaced the digressive valves in the rear shocks with linear valves and then resized the valving specific to my weights. They do this for everyone. the washer/shim was a whole $6 to add in. All you have to do is tell them model list any additional weights you have front or back. Very easy.

You may wait and see Tor's response to the Foxes.... Accutune does those as well. They have more adjustability than the Kings and do not need the spacer.

The ride on the bilsteins is acceptable. It has all the usual characteristics of the stock sasquatch suspension, noticeable brake dive, noticeable front end lift on accel, soft and flexy. All these characteristics seem exagerated by the portals/40s combo, whether it is the additional unsprung weight, or the change in perspective from sitting so much higher, or a combo of those. I have been going back and forth between my BL and my portal build for apples/apples perspective. Biggest difference right now is that even tho the have the exact same tire in different sizes, the 40s produce some tire shake at certain speeds, where the 37s are buttery smooth. I have checked the balance several times, and the 40s are balanced well. They seem to have a little road force runout, which does not suprise me at all for a tire this size. Hoping after I air them down and flex them good, just as I have w/the 37s, they will decide they want to be round! Most noticeable difference going back and forth has been the gearing! I know it's physically impossible, but the portal Bronco FEELS much faster than the BL! 5th gear is actually usable! And 6th is on the table (at speeds that local LE would take issue with)

I thought the regear would make it feel faster? Since you've essentially gone to a smaller tire as far as the gear can handle (37's to effective 34's?). I thought the performance boost, spinning 38's like Quinn did in the early video, was a benefit.

Yes I still have dive as well. I am running the Kings a little on the soft side.... I also get some side wall squirm under hard braking that I do not like. I need to play with some pressures to see how I might change that if possible. I do not have any "shake" you are saying that is a different specific speeds... Not on different surfaces.... Interesting... do not like that...

On paper yes, but my experience has been w/builds like this that the reality is that the BEST you can hope for is a "wash". The additional weight and drag of more meat and gearing is gonna soak up more horsepower, and at some point the vehicle becomes "unstreetable". Sure you can run over boulders at 5mph all day, but 70mph on the interstate? forget it! I am not experiencing that feeling at all at this point, in fact I enjoy driving the portal Bronco MORE! Some numbers tell the plain truth tho...the unportaled BL over a 20 mile combined driving commute is getting 18mpg and the portal Bronco STRUGGLES to stay over 12! Cross country trips would definitely be challenging, and expensive!
