For those of you who have installed your GMRS radio tucked away some where like the glove box or inside the center console, how well can you hear the speaker vs installing the radio on the passenger side of the console?

Does the 275 have an external speaker jack like the 575? I put a rugged radios external speaker just above the passenger side visor... fit was perfect. Do not have pics right now... Bronco is in getting PPF at the moment.

It doesn't, which is why Iam hesitant to install it tucked away.

Well damn... the 575 just has a simple 1/8 inch jack. I mounted mine way up under the dash so I anticipated it being a problem so I ordered the $15 speaker.

My 275 has an external speaker jack and the handheld mic has a built-in speaker that is disabled by default. I had mine for a year before figuring out the handheld had a speaker, so now I ditched using the external speaker.

Yup, handset has speaker too. It wasn't enough for me at highway speeds and soft top, so I got the Midland aux speaker and it sits right under my seat. At not highway speeds the handset speaker is plenty.

The sound on mine comes from the handheld mic mounted on the dash. You can switch the options to come from the console, mic and or both.

ok, after looking more closely at the unit, there is a MIC jack above the power cord on the back. If I can use the Mic as a speaker that should be good for trail use.

Not sure if people are using these on the road yet - like truckers used CBs at one time.

The whole marketing point of the MTX 275 is that it's specifically designed to have all the controls in the handheld. So it's specifically made to tuck away the main unit and not have access to it.

So you turn off the speaker on the main unit which only leaves the speaker on the handheld. And remember you can get an extension cord if you want to place the handheld anywhere in the cab that you please.

My head unit is installed underneath the center console, and I chose an RJ 45 mount to install next to the usb ports so I plug my handset in only when needed.

Fyi, another advantage of mounting in the center console, that there's a fat green wire that feeds the 12 volt plug inside the center. Works perfect to tap into, and keeps power for a little while when shutting the Bronco off.

I got the unit installed yesterday, I put the main box in the cubby in the center console where the 12v cig adapter is. Then ran the antenna under the center console behind the glove box then installed the antenna on the top right corner of the hood.

I did not want the MIC visible when Iam not using it, I can easily extend it out of the center cubby while Iam using it. This will make it a little easier to remove if I ever trade it in as well.

In the past when I have had the doors and top of my Jeep off, I actually caught someone going through my glove box when I came out of a Circle K Store, so I don't like keeping valuables in vehicles when I have the hardtop off and especially with the doors off.

I did turn the speaker on for the MIC and it is plenty loud for trail use and even on the freeway with the windows up.

I am not sure on my range in the urban areas, Iam picking up local guys on HAM, but haven't tried to ask how Iam coming thru or range.
