Removed picture of the dog tag. Probably won't make any difference at this point, guy's been gone 28 years...

I'd rather you not have posted an actual picture of the dog tags and info. It's cool that you found them and can get them to the family, but I would not have posted a picture of it. Please consider removing it from this site.

Those are intensely personal things to many of us.

Being former military, you should know there is a proper way to return personal items found that does not include social media.
I appreciate your point of view, but we're having more luck with finding people on social media than getting the air force to follow up. They emailed me once and haven't gotten back since Monday...

Doesn’t require a picture of the actual dog tag. You have the info you could have posted. First time collecting dog tags? Some things don’t belong on social media.

Agreed. Unfortunately, not my first time, but first time for someone gone for 28 years...

View it as if it was one of your soldiers or family member and if you want to see their dog tags displayed from where they died in service. Respectfully ask you to remove the picture.

I personally would be honored if, after 28 years, someone found my dog tags and displayed them publicly. I understand some have a different stance, and they are welcome to that opinion. I have removed the picture at their request.

I suppose people have been known to use dead peoples' personal information to create fake accounts and what-not, so better to play it safe, I guess...

Getting my dog tags from 28 years later, not so much an issue. Getting my spank bank hard drive from deployment, that’s a whole nother kettle of fish …… though I don’t remember fish being on it…… I think
Oh, that's already plastered all over the interwebs...

As a IL born kid I would be banned if I responded to this post, but most of you reading it can probably figure out what I would have said! Damn shame thats the way it's gotta be. But awesome if the dude's mom gets her son's tag back! I mean I think you thought it through!

Really cool story!

I see some of the people's points about not showing the tag. I also think I would be super honored if someone was posting about me 28 years after I died. I think both sides are right.

Either way thanks for taking care of returning it to his family!

And thanks for your service in the Army!
