Wow! Is all I can say. What a task. I will start this by apologizing. I wanted to do an install video, a how-to since there is known on the web. Well between the internet going down, the pop up T-Storms for most of the day, and just about everything else that could go wrong going wrong, well the video went to the waste side. The install did get done. I will say this now. I do not care how many wrenches Injen says the install is, it is indeed a feat of will power to get this thing installed.
The Story: (skip to the bottom if you do not like to read
)
I started early, wanted to get this done before the true heat came on in S. FL. I was going to do it in the garage, but a decent breeze was blowing, so I pulled to the garage in the shade and prepped Jessabelle. I used my washer and dryer as the workbench, and open the box. Nicely packaged, and well protected. Took a look at the pieces, and everything looked to be there. 1st problem: Bar code, and internet link for the directions. Well, the internet is down, so no download. Hmmm well it's an intake, how hard could it be?
The Install (From Hell) Part 1: The take off.
So, how hard could it be was my famous last words. It was like the Injen gremlin heard this, and decided OK Buddy. So after looking a few things over, I decided to remove the air box first. No problem. removed all the screws, took off the lid, pulled the filter(which looked good btw), disconnected the connections and pulled the box. Hah! No problem at all. Then came the pain.
I went to disconnect the passenger side turbo hose. The Injen brings its own connection all the way to the turbo, (which is very nice) so the stock had to go. The problem, it did not use a screw, it used a clamp. The way Ford had the clamp it was as if nobody would ever want to remove it. I did not have a fancy clamp remover so I tried plyers. Hook, Large needle nose, nothing could get a grip. Also Jessabelle is lifted by 4' so even though I am 6-41/2, it's a pita getting leverage. Out came my stepstool. Ok, still no joy. Hmmm, went and grabbed a pair of channel locks. Ok, now I am getting somewhere. squeeze and squeeze, push, pull, and finally, the hose comes off. Wow. Now I am looking at how the rest of the lower pipe comes off, but it's a pita with the top pipe in the way. So I guess<?> I need to move it. Take few screws off and it does not seem to want to move. Hmmm. Ok let me try taking off the driver side. Ok I need to remove these clips. Um...How. Ok don't break them. Getting nowhere fast. Need to get these off to get the worm screw for the turbo.(at least it was not a clamp) Ok.... Oh looks it's starting to rain.
Go inside and the interent is back. YES! I get the instructions. Well, not so bad, colour pics, saying what to do in a order. Ok. The one thing though is that Injen ok do this and do that. In the next frame its magically off. Umm...real world, that is not happening like that. So after looking and staring at another clip I could see better, I finally got the tube off. Now the PVC was on, but it did not have a way off. Oh wait Injen supplied a tool. OK. Well after doing it and doing it, and doing it one more time, it finally came off without anything breaking. Wow. Now there is this tiny screw that needs to come off, and big hands and tools that do not fit in little places are a problem. After many cuss words, finally got that screw off. More pulling and pulling, and needling, and pulling, and finally it comes off. Now to remove the top pipe. Have to it was not as bad, though these Ford clamps again, a pita. Got the top off, move it to the side out of the way. Well bloody O, It's raining again.
Part 2: The install.
Ok. Now the pain really begins. I gather all of the pipes, and I read or rather look at the panels. Ok. Seems not so bad. (I hear a snicker from somewhere). I get the driver side pipe and I line it up. I put on the adapter, and the worm screws. Ok. Now I try and I do mean try, to get the pipe on. Oh wow. It should not be this hard. Moving, wiggling, pushing, struggling, its not going one. Then I drop the screwdriver I had to move the worm screws into the abyss known as the 2.7. Of course, it does not fall through. Grrrrrrr cuss words fly. I see it, I'll get it later. I go back to trying to get the pipe in, and by some miracle, it slides on. !!!!!! ok. Let's tighten the turbos side and then the pipe side. Ok. It's all downhill from here. (more faint laughter...where is this coming from????)
I go back and look at the pic-o-gram instructions. It says to put in the box. Well, I did the driver-side pipe, so I'll do this now. Ok. I missed getting the grommet out of the old box. No worries I still get the screw in. Again tight spaces. But it's in. The filter actually screws in. Ok! Well that was not so bad. The box is solid, much bigger than the stock box.
Now comes the passenger side pipping. If your children are watching you do this, I suggest you send them inside. Go play X-Box or PS5. Ok. First there is not a lot of room. With the filter in as instructed, it is nigh high impossible to slide the passenger pipe in place. Now I see why the top pipe needs to be off. Even out of the way, there are plenty of other things to get in your way. Wow oh wow oh wow. Injen says it just slides on. THIS IS A LIE!!!! SHAME SHAME SHAME!. If you have another pair of hands, bribe them, pay them, do whatever you have to do to get them to help. Oh looks it's raining. AGAIN!!!!!!!
OK. Let's try this again. I have moved the driver-side pipe as much as I could, I am now trying to get the passenger pipe down and into place. The stepladder makes another appearance. Moving both sides of the pipes, cussing, sweating because now it's humid as bloody hell, I try and try to get the pipe on. You look and think, why is this so hard!!!! You stare at it....willing it to work. It stares back. Mocking you. Ok. Walking away is not an option. It's starting to get on in the afternoon, you do not want to lose the sun. So you try again. And by a miracle of miracles, it slides on!!!! WTF?!?!!? You get the clamps in place then you go for the filter. It finally goes on. Ok. Now for the midsection. I mean I should just be able to get this on no problem. Ok first few tries and NOPE. I am nearly there. YOU SHALL NOT DENY ME. I AM A ENGINEER FOR REAL!!! SERIOUSLY!!!! Then after that outrage I look and reverse the process. Since the driver's side has more wiggle room, it should be easier to go on. YES!!! THAT WORKED!!!. You look and it's on. Now that all remains is to put the top pipe back on. It tries to resist you, but the end is at hand. It goes back in, and now it's done. I tighten everything that's left, and now I must retrieve that screwdriver.
Well after looking and looking, thank god for the 4' lift, you sit and think where in the bloody hell is it?? As if Jessabelle heard my plee, the vehicle shuddered, (???) and the screwdriver just rolls into my hand that is pawing around in I guess the front diff section. Umm ok. I crawl out and grab my keys. I check and check, all is good. I crank and she roars to life. No lights, no bloops, no errors. I want to roar with a victory cry, but lol I am to dam tired. Oh looks its starting to rain. I need a tall one. Since I do not drink, that will be a tall glass of Lemonade!
Well, if you may it this far, I will say this. The system is very well put together. The Air Box is much bigger than stock. The piping is way bigger than stock and has way fewer bends and turns. The filter itself is pretty large. My quick drive around the block, I can hear the turbos with the windows down. My blow-off seems louder<?> I have not really tested it yet, I'll do that later. Overall I am quite pleased with the kit. It is very well made and very well put together. It's just a hell of an install. INJEN, WE NEED A VIDEO!!!!!!
Conclusion:
Well, that's it. The kit is well worth it, and if you got one on back order and waiting, it's worth the wait. Thanks for reading, I'll get some more pics to put up. It's raining again.
