I think Fords target market with the off-road enthusiasts is more of the overlanding crowd than the rock crawling crowd. Overlanding is becoming much more popular in the USA these days. overlanders seem to prefer IFS as you are traveling at a higher rate of speed than rock crawlers. I think the bronco will be more similar to the FJ than the Wrangler. The FJ was quite capable, easy to lift 3-4 inches, and put bigger tires on for those that wanted it. It was also quite capable on the rocks from what I've seen but obviously not as much as a Wrangler.
That’s what I want to do. Build a overlanding rig. Maybe it’s my English blood saying that overlanding is best, and my american side saying you need an american overlanding vehicle.

Ford has plenty of engineers and people who study this stuff.
These comments always bring to mind the "third door" when they first started putting them in extended cabs. They were on the passenger side. There has not yet been one person I have met, that had one of those trucks, who wanted the door on the passenger side. I can only imagine the focus groups that decided that....curb side safety....Soccer mom retrieving the kids from the back..... versus the 98% of those trucks sold to construction workers who just wanted to get at their stuff IMMEDIATELY after getting out.

I’m not trying to be a jerk when I say this but Ford knows a lot more than either of us.
Yet, they still miss the mark fairly often. Building a vehicle with serious off-road chops image.... only to please soccer mom..... is most definitely missing that mark.

To say the bronco will fall flat and be gone in 4 years if it doesn’t go toe to toe with a Wrangler is silly.
I disliked Jimmydeans comments at first, but, tend to agree with him now
.
I also FIRMLY believe that IMAGE is what makes the jeep....heck, it is what makes the Classic Bronco, They both have ability, but not all of them are out there conquering Katemcy Rocks, and if this is the best the BroncoBronco is capable of....it will see the axe sooner than later.

Image:
You want Harley Davidson, the sound, the look , the feel (the image) ...... does Honda Shadow come to mind? .... or an Indian?

IFS or SFA be darned...... If they cannot match the coolness of the jeep IMAGE at a comparable price point, their goose will be cooked.

Idk, my wife's Shadow 750rs has all the look, sound, and feel of a Harley with the same power for half the engine size oh and it starts and runs and doesn't leak oil, so...

Gotta pay $$$$ to get it done aftermarket

We know the Bronco is able to go topless, and as @Streetfish said:

"I think Fords target market with the off-road enthusiasts is more of the overlanding crowd than the rock crawling crowd. Overlanding is becoming much more popular in the USA these days. Honestly, I never did either, just minor trails, but Overlanding sounds more appealing, and even if I had a JL, wasn't gonna go H4RDC0R3! with it.

That, and the fact that unlike Jeep, you can get a 2.7tt (Which has been out long enough to have an aftermarket) appeals to Speed Demons like me.

So again, the Overlanding Yin to the Wranglers Rock Crawling Yang.

Yeah that's the mistake they made not making the roof come off...and the rear windows don't open either so it's pretty much the opposite of an open air experience. But they are still extremely desirable for thier capability. I think they also should have put a few more creature comforts in them...the steering wheel doesn't even telescope and have you seen the radio, lol.

My Dad actually likes them, though he'll never get them.
