Amsoil - Something to Think About

The pictures are from my wife's Murano. If you want to stop reading, that's okay. I just didn't want to go disassembling my Bronco when I could practice on my wife's SUV.

Anyway, the pictures are with 26,000 miles and the car is about 14 months old. I took the first two photos 1,000 miles ago. Yes, I switched to Amsoil oil but also was interested in their PI engine cleaner ability. So I removed the spark plug, before using the PI cleaner, @ 26,000. Just over 27,000 I removed the spark plug again, I see a noticeable difference.

Carbon build up is something to consider. I just couldn't believe that her car already had that much build up on it in one year. I was also pleased that one PI treatment helped.

This post is about the PI cleaner and showing proof it works. There is more that could be discussed but I will be putting this in my other vehicles now every oil change.

Photo 10 & 19 - AFTER: you can see both piston rings and the buildup area (more noticeable in photo 5) is greatly diminished...even starting to see a little shine come back.

My second is a comment. In the days or carburetors and no catalytic converters we used a product called Motor-Klenz ( they have a diesel equivalent) as a fuel additive and would pour a 50-50 mix of it and gas through carb barrels while running. Big clouds of exhaust smoke and endcresulylt was carb throats clean as new and appatlrenyltly also intake runners and head.

Since, Top Tier 87 ethanol free.

A little more pricey but ethanol free is proven to help reduce carbon build up. I do get better gas mileage, that helps offset cost. Not trying to start any gas topic as that could go on and on but ethanol free does help reduce carbon buildup. I know Top Tier has detergents but as you can see from the first two pictures, Top Tier cleaning detergents just are not enough.

If I buy 93 ethanol, well…that is about the same price (maybe more expensive) than 87 ethanol free and at that point I get the best gas mileage on 87 ethanol free.

The Amsoil oil temperatures run cooler, also helping reduce carbon build from ever forming to begin with.

My understanding of an engine especially this late in the game, is the cooling shutters, and various other things especially a thermostat are designed to keep it at optimal temps

I know lower t-stats allow lower temperatures, but seems to be an interesting gain

Don't get me wrong. I am a staunch proponent of full synthetic followed by synthetic blend followedby PA Grade crude which Pennzoil anx Quaker State no longer are (Wolf's Head is last oil company using 100% PA- its a difference between land dinosaurs and sea dinosaurs or hard and soft coal)

But as far as I know Amsoil buys its base stock like most every other oil company from the largest producer of synthetic bases took, Schaeffer and the Amsoil deal is akin to Amway or you would fond it on the shelf at Autozone

Which mirrors what ive seen. They eek out everything they can for CAFE. Weight, fuel, temps, emissions….. its pretty complicated

I understand the business plan.

there are lots of videos out there of people running their own oil experiments in head to head tests…Amsoil in many of them result as Amsoil proving to be a superior product.

I am not an Amsoil dealer. Not trying to be. I watched videos and did what I believe to be extensive research. I have purchased their products. They are cleaning my engine, reducing carbon buildup, running engine temperatures about 10 degrees cooler than normal…nothing earth shattering but enough to keep me buying their products.

since I didn’t know all of this a few months ago and want to best care for my car…I decided to share my own findings in case it inspires someone else.

I have a Bronco Raptor. It displays the oil temperature on the dash.

My wife’s Murano doesn’t have an exact temperature but it does hold steady just left of the midline now.

My Raptor can get to operating temps 212+….it just barley ever does.

Normal temperature for me is around 195, usually between 188-198.
