Getting ready to mount 37s on new wheels and my local mechanic (who I trust) is recommending balance bags vs. regular wheel weights. I have zero experience w/ balance bags or beads...what are the pros and cons?

Thanks for the input. I get mixed reviews so I'm skeptical.

There is no reason not to balance those tires properly with weights. If you were talking bias ply off-road tires that couldn't balance properly then maybe beads or the like. The mechanic you are speaking of is probably stating this cause he doesn't have a balancing machine that can handle a 37" tire. Which in my opinion he should of stated instead of implying bags were for the best. Take them elsewhere who can balance that size.

The nitto tires should balance out fine with weights. Have them use the red dot when mounting
I'm thinking a tire specific type shop, Goodyear, Firestone, etc, some place that deals with larger trucks fairly often.
Fwiw, I've never looked into "bags" , but the beads had decent reviews when I last researched it, but I want to say they were dealing with problematic tires.

Nope, mechanics I'm friends w/ are in the jeep camp and run the bags in their 37s, swears buy them although they don't wheel hard. They are equipped to mount well beyond 37s
Then have them balance them properly with weights. Nitto tires like other reputable tire companies make quality radial off-road tires. Just my 2¢ of advice.

My thoughts are
If the bags hang up on the tpms sensors they.wont balance.
Better to get the ball bearing rings from decades back that supposedly balance as you drive

Nope you ain't missing anything. I always try to stay with what works, especially for pavement use. If this was going to be your weekend off-road warrior then by all means use Jello if it worked. If I was using tires like Super Swampers which by large mostly all are bias ply, then you would have a hell of a time balancing. Then beads and rice, BB's and bags would suffice. Except for damages that will occur to your 4 tpms sensors.
