Awesome, love the video recording. Trail rating are quite subjective, however the rating in my area are particularly inaccurate, Lonesome lake is rated as moderate, you can drive a Honda Civic up that trail in the summer.

MOAB, Utah, May 2, 2023 – Real adventures seldom happen where streets are paved. That’s why Ford is making it easy to discover, plan and share off-road journeys with the new Bronco® Trail App.

Ford today debuts the Bronco Trail App for Apple iOS and Google Android mobile devices at Bronco Safari 2023 in Utah, where hundreds of Bronco enthusiasts are gathering to show off their vehicles and tackle some of the challenging trails that can be found in the app.

Available only for Bronco® SUV owners, the app features approximately 1,200 professionally curated off-road trail maps across the U.S., Canada and Mexico to start. It also provides the ability to record drives with waypoints, photos and video – and lets you share your adventure on social media.

Future updates will continue to add more trails and features to the Bronco Trail App.

After downloading the Bronco Trail App and linking it to their FordPass account, Bronco owners gain access to key features, including:

Curated trail maps: Always stay on the trail with the Bronco Trail App and discover roughly 18,000 miles of existing trails in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Filter by location, length, difficulty, and more. Each trail has a description and can be saved for future adventures.

Points of interest: Keep track of what’s ahead, like tough challenges, scenic points of interest, waypoints, can’t-miss photo ops, and more. Once you’ve saved a trip, you can add your own waypoints, photos, and notes about your experience.

Satellite imagery and 2D topographic maps: Access and download different map styles to prepare for the journey ahead. Going off-grid? No problem: you can view downloaded maps even if you are offline.

Pressure gauge: Some trails recommend lower or higher tire pressure to traverse – Bronco Trail App features a real-time tire pressure gauge built in the app to assist with adjusting to desired tire pressure on the trail and recommended pressure for the road. And you can use it even when you don’t have a cellular or cloud connection.

Adventure tracking: Bookmark and record favorite trails to visit again or share experiences from your phone with other Bronco owners.

Video capturing: Capture video of your drive by securing your smartphone in the vehicle. Finished recordings can be viewed in the app or through a connection with your vehicle’s center console, with overlay data like speed, RPM, distance traveled, elevation, and more. Once you’re done recording, the video will be automatically saved to your phone and available to share via text, social media channel or in online forums.


The Bronco Trail App is complimentary to download and use. It’s available now in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Downloaded and linked to my FordPass....quick question, so all the features are accessed and seen on the dash screen via choosing the app and only via Apple CarPlay...?

OnX is pretty useless on the Bronco dash screen. Anything useful you want to do with OnX - you have to do from some other device. (phone, laptop, etc). Once it projects to the dash - there is very little useful information there. Hopefully Ford has improved over OnX. Will be taking a look shortly. But I doubt it as think most of the problems are not the app….it’s the restrictions Apple puts in place on CarPlay.

This why I did this at least for now. I use my cameras.

Wow excited then disappointed.
We generally run 2 places in PA... AOAA and Rausch Creek. Rausch isnt even represented and AOAA has dozens of trails, but the app only show 3 loops. I certainly hope its a work in progress.

I did the same thing after I downloaded the app. I wonder if it only "sees" the trails some one has loaded/saved in there???

I also noticed it has the forest road by my cabin and hell that is not even a trail, just a no winter maintainance road.


For years I have used Maprika and has worked flawlessly. I now have an iphone and it seems I cannot find it in my app store. Maybe only an android thing.

Edit: Oh, are we thinking it is due to the 90-day nav option expiring? Mine is in the tail end of that not but not yet expired. If that is the case, also will be super disappointed.

No, I let mine expire. It synced up just fine.

Also at break, I was playing around with it. Kinda disappointed the camera resolution from my phone (Galaxy S22) is very unfocused (the camera might be focusing on the windshield)

It has a lot of promise - it needs content badly - as do they all - especially for Texas. Merus in Palo Duro Canyon isn't even there. It needs to show publicly accessible areas even if not curated. Finding a place to wheel is the hardest thing. Once there, I don't need all that documentation. Though it's fun.

I just downloaded it to my iPad. It only shows up th size as if it was on my phone. I would love to see it full screen on a tablet. I have cellar data and this would be a lot easier to see on a trail.

It will get better over time right now it is just out of Bata.

The integration with Android auto is laughably bad. It straight up does not work and just gives this helpful message the whole time:

And what in the everloving fuck is 'SmartDeviceLink'?! Why in the hell didn't they just use the existing mechanisms built into the phone for hooking into this? Oh, I guess we needed a more 'immersive experience' or something.

Which one of Jim Farley's nephews did this app as their senior class project in high school computer lab? Did they even test with a version of android past 7, or were they just unable to get anything newer than a Nexus 4 for testing?

6 months ago: I guess Ford gave up on the Trail App. I'll just pay for On-X.

Now: I already pay for On-X, which has way more trails, what do I need the Trail App for?

Will use On X for the trails then use this for the record feature. If it not hard to use.

Oh, hell, yeah! This is one of those killer features that I've been waiting for! So glad it's here! I can't wait to see what's in the app near me. I was just about to buy another app to use while I waited for this. Timing couldn't be better!

Some of these trail ratings are just plain wrong. For example, anyone in SoCal, check out Pinyon Canyon in Anza Borrego.

Trails Offroad: Mandatory 5
OnX: 7
Ford: Easy

This is anything but an easy trail. The Ford guide even lists The Squeeze by name and calls out the steep section after. The Squeeze is about the exact width of a JL wrangler and the steep section is exceptionally steep.

Anyone going solely off Fords app will have a very bad day on this trail.

Glad this is finally available! Has some pretty cool features and I like the user interface. Seems much easier to use than On X. I think this will be my go to for off roading now.
For those of you looking for a great on-road routing & Navigation program that allows for multi-day and multi-route trips, I would highly recommend "InRoute" which has both computer and smartphone apps and is CarPlay enabled. You'll never use Apple Maps or GoogleMaps again for trips.
Anyway, glad Ford delivered on this Bronco Trail Maps app.
