mod? Total noob here, so I was just wondering. I thought the full size spare was essential to an off road vehicle. Can anyone enlighten me?

I haven’t deleted my spare - but can speculate why somebody would want to:

1. Reduced weight
2. Increased visibility
3. One less thing to hang up on offroad. I’ve seen a few instances of somebody coming down on the spare and bending the tailgate and/or smashing the rear window.

And I supposed there are possibly those who think
4. Just “looks cleaner”

The delete takes the 150lbs off the back and out of view. I still have the spare, but store it inside.

Edit 06/26/23: I no longer carry a spare. I now carry an inner tube and a patch and plug kit. I always carry tools that I can remove and reinstall the beadlock ring (if needed) and I have on-board air.

I would like it too if there was a cleaner look..say a new tailgate you could replace the stock one but retro style and then store the spare inside but those kits to me don't look ‘ cleaner’ but they do reduce weight

My buddy has 40s on his Tacoma. He doesn't run a spare because it's too heavy for him to get off the carrier. He carries a repair kit instead.

It wouldn't even be all that hard for McNeil, Anderson, or the like to make a smooth fiberglass skin to glue over the whole thing.

Inside Bronco or inside home? I’m curious if there’s a secure method to put inside a 2-door? Prolly just would want to do that while crawling to be sure it doesn’t get caught at certain drops.

If you get a leveling kit, removing the spare could raise the rear enough to level it out and make it look right again.

I imagine you’d have to be fairly strong to put on the spare anyway. Many Bronco drivers probably couldn’t do it.

I have a stock badlands with 33s and have changed the spare. And I'm pretty small. I guess those 35 and up really must pick up weight.

Because the stock spare tire carrier gets in the way of a bumper mounted swing tire carrier . . .

Wait, you want to fiberglass over the tailgate vent?
