I normally cruise around in Normal mode with the Auto Start/Stop engaged. The other day, while sitting at a red light, I noticed the ASS didn’t kick in. I manually disengaged it, then re-engaged it. Still doesn’t seem be active regardless of heater, lights, AC being on or off.

Did Ford quietly make it go away with a software update?

Not complaining mind you, just curious.

The Auto Start/Stop system takes into account the condition of your vehicle—temperature/battery health/power demand/etc.—to determine whether it should activate.

For example, the battery on my wife's Escape needs to be replaced and ASS hasn't activated in a good 6-8 months now.

(And yes I know I should replace her battery but I tend to suffer from a condition known as "overwhelming laziness".)

This happens to me atleast once while driving. Where I’ll expect the ass to kick in and shut the engine off but it dosnt. I think there are certain qualifications where it dosnt engage and turn off. One of them is in stop and go traffic. I noticed that if you stop and it kicks in and repeat this two-three times. It wont kick in ass after. I also think the slope of the road might have something to do with it. Im sure this is in the owners manual. It has to be.

Is ASS hard on the engine/components? I never been a fan of restarting every time I stop thinking this has got to be hard on components/electrical/etc
If big enough can cause a pull
