Read the post. The lug nuts I bought are OEM size. If you look closely at the stock nuts, you can see the unpainted area even with those. It's just not as obvious with the chrome nuts. They have a taper flange. I measured both with calipers and the difference is minimal.
Washer? What are you talking about. There's no washer.
This isn't my first rodeo. I've been working on cars and motorcycles for over 50 yrs. Never saw anything like this. I always get rid of the cheap factory capped lug nuts. Nothing but trouble.
Looks like more than 1/32"

Those aren't the nuts I used. Those are definitely smaller. These are the ones I used.

It is true that Ford did a crappy job powder coating the wheels. They were too conservative in trying to avoid the seat. You do not want powder coat or paint on the seat as the wheels can loosen.

At least the hex bulge McGards are better than the crappy factory nuts.

Ford doesn’t manufacture the wheels.

Purchases aftermarket parts and complains about the effects lol.

100% avoided if purchased the black Ford Performance lug nuts.

Think those are capped too. I'll be switching mine out to avoid those issues but staying chrome so what do you suggest OP?

What’s wrong with capped? I have yet to see any aftermarket lug set last more than a couple years here in Michigan in all the elements. I’ve seen oem capped lugs over a decade old and still not rusted.

Maybe you're independently wealthy. Did you see the price on those? Think they're capped too.

Guess you never had the caps slip on you before. If it happens to you once, you'll understand.

Get yourself some black nail polish and call it a day. Then you can get some sleep. In all seriousness a little touch-up paint with a brush and not a single person would ever know!

You don't notice it as much with the chrome. Make sure you get the BULGE nuts. The narrow ones are for aftermarket.

BTW, to all you guys who think I'm whining about this, I'm not. I'm just making an observation. If I look had enough through this site, I'll probably find some of you bitching about some trivial crap too. Wind noise, c'mon it's a truck. Cheap plastic interior, it's not a mercedes. Etc, etc.

Yeah, Ford doesn't mfg the wheels, but they spec them and OK the final product

Already have it from past vehicles. Like I said, I don't lose any sleep over it. My wheels are gonna get way more scratched anyway.

Not really worried about it. Just found it odd that they would let them out like that.
Don't look too close at underbody/marginally-hard-to-reach places, lots more 'oddities' on these babies

As others have pointed out, it's bare for a good reason; I would definitely Not use nail polish or other thick paint-like touch-up. Sharpie is your friend as other poster said. Will be blackish-enough to hide without buildup that will break loose and cause problems...
