You did an awesome job. Looks good with the fit, professional and functional with the cubby below the rear panel. This was my starting point. Had to make some adjustments along the way. Had to taper the lid to clear interior trim when opened. Few others as well.![]()
I am a simple dude. Just picked up the 6'x8' indoor/outdoor carpet roll they sell at Lowes. No ordering or cutting off the big spool. Just threw it in my basket and off I went.looks awesome! What carpeting did you use to cover it?
If I run the seats all the way forward and delete the rear seat, you would gain about 15" of length past my platform. Probably around 18" if you run the seat forward and tilt it. You would have to consider how you are going to support the platform when it spans the rear seat footwell. It's about a 6" drop. You would also need a cutout for the center console.I love this. I do want to do a seat delete just to use it as extra storage and to transform the car into a camper.
If you don't mind doing me a favor and measure something...how many extra inches you get by moving the driver/passenger seats as far forward as they can go? From your diagram you have 47.5in already so whats the measurement from seats forward from the wood?
Thanks.![]()
Please do. I looked at many posts to figure out materials, drawers or no drawers, design, etc. That's why we are all on this forum!Do you mind if i copy you? Looks great!
Yes, my kids are older but I still have four of them to consider. None of them are invited in my Bronco but I want the option. Not ready for a seat delete. I was able to get a stable surface with 3/4" plywood, rear frame, a piece of wood between the seats, and some seat back covers. Full width hinges also helped.Great job so cool how everyone does their own take on it.
I thought about leaving the seats in and covering it with the platform but it was an unstable surface ,do you see using back seats in the future? mine are resting comfortably in the shed.
I see you considered having the platform split for 3 passenger seating.
Any reasons as to why that didn't happen or why it shouldn't/wouldn't/couldn't happen?
We ride 3 deep plus the dog, so having that option would work out well for us.
I could see how having more joints could lead to a less rigid or shifty platform.
Great idea. I've got big dogs so I was trying to save as much head space in the back as possible. I understand the advantage of underplatform storage. My storage depth is just equal to the depth of the rear seats in the down position. I didn't secure the contraption to the bronco at this point. I have a plan to do that if it moves around with the top/doors off. I'll check it when the weather warms up.Im going to try to make a platform 10” underneath so i can store UNDER it while the top is off and it will be fairly secure.
Just rounded the sharp edge (and all the edges) with a palm sander. Not sure why I didn't go full rounded. Lazy I suppose. The carpeted edges really make everything easy to move so not concerned with scratching the interior. Although all my scratches are from test fitting the wood. UGH!Looks great. It doesn't look like you rounded the front outsides like shown in the diagram. No issues there?
Iva had a dane I think he would have been fine with the platform at armrest levelPlease do. I looked at many posts to figure out materials, drawers or no drawers, design, etc. That's why we are all on this forum!

My initial thought as well as my drawing was to split the platform to give me a three up option. But ultimately decided it was too many moving parts and I feared I would lose stability. Easy to add later with a table saw. Figure I'll run this way for a bit and make a decision later.

Love it. How much to make one and ship it to Oregon?!!!I’ve been taking notes of all the others making a level platform in the 2DR without removing seats.
Plywood, 1x6, hinges, hardware, carpet and time. Folds up to put seats up and relatively easy to remove. Good platform for the dogs and decent storage.
Thought I’d share.
