Raptor road trip, crazy?

Thinking about a 2K mile, each way, road trip for me and two teen age kids. We have a Pacifica that is an absolute mile eater and road trip machine, but we’ve been there and done that many times. We also (presently) have a Rivian R1T. Amazing truck and would undoubtedly be a better actual driver that the Raptor, but the charging, and the fact I might be letting it go, have me thinking 4K miles added to it isn’t the best idea. So I’m looking at the Raptor in all it’s “shaped like a brick and about as aerodynamic” glory. So, am I crazy to be looking at this as a road tripper? Anyone done any epic long drives in theirs? Tips, tricks, feedback? Thanks.

Strongly agree with indio22. If you plan to go offroad at your destination then absolutely take the Bronco. If there are places along the way to go offroad then bring the Bronco. If you are gonna be on pavement for 100% of the time, then take the Pacifica. I just got back from a 1000 mile road trip in the Bronco with three adults and it was fine, but I do not also have a Pacifica to choose from.

I can understand the logic behind driving the minivan for these trips in terms of fuel efficiency, luggage and seating capacity and overall comfort....but I'd have a hard time NOT taking the Raptor. It just makes me smile every mile I drive it, if not giggle from time to time.

Might be the old man in me, but between those two I'm the taking the Pacifica unless you plan on wheeling at your destination.

Does the top come off the Pacifica? Does the Pacifica get you excited to drive it? Would you create better memories with the two teens (assume they are your kids) in the Pacifica than the Raptor? If you see a great off-road opportunity at any of your stops along the 2k mile drive can you rip the Pacifica off the pavement and have a blast?

If you can answer no to all, then take the Raptor. If comfort and luggage capacity are the two main factors take the Pacifica.

Actually, I would let the teenage kids decide. If they do decide on the Raptor, then I would schedule in some off road time, so they get the whole experience and have some good tales to tell when they go back to school.

More info: this is a winter trip from Boston to Colorado. I’d much prefer to have the Raptor while we’re in Colorado than the Pacifica… (though it’s actually pretty great in the snow).

Zero to do with image or being seen. Couldn’t care less. Frankly no one cares about the Raptor or even notices it. I‘ve had one person ever talk to me about it. Now the Rivian… entirely different story. That thing is a conversation magnet! People go crazy over that thing.

Well there is no snow in the southwest right now so I think you're fine either way but that could always change.

Personally I would drive the Raptor. As someone who has multiple cars and who tends to use the daily drivers way more than the fun cars, and then sells the fun cars with basically no miles on them and not enough fun/use to have justified the expense, take the Raptor. Use it, enjoy it, stack the miles on it, get your money's worth.

It's all fleeting moments in time, if given the choice in how I spend those moments, especially on long road trips, I would take the option that is the least practical but offers the most smiles. I never take road trips in my daily drivers for this reason.

It's one of the reasons we wanted a Bronco to go anywhere including some far off places.

I drove mine to Tampa FL and Back, 640 miles each way. Rode and drove fine. Comfortable. Crappy mpg, which was expected. 15.2 mpg at 76 mph.

At least the fill ups are faster and easier to locate than for the R1T . But yeah, this thing does chug gas.

I took my Bronco on a trip last spring, 720 miles each way. It was comfortable and effortless. Not quite the road tripper that my Crown Victoria was but I'd do it again without hesitation.
