Maybe move the Rotopax bracket to the other side?

I have that strut! Maybe that's why it opens to 90 degrees. Funny thing is, it was on the Bronco when I bought it. I wonder if it was included in either the high or luxury packages? I had no idea it wasn't on all Broncos?
Yes you have a strut from ford it has detente and stops 90* if you push again or get caught on a windy day it’ll swing to 120* I think.

My hammer built tailgate support has begun to rust after just a couple of months. Anybody seeing this or have a solution? I know once it starts it can get bad and ugly quickly.

Mines rusting too, only solution is clean rust off and touch it up with paint...

That rust is disappointing. I got this for Xmas and was getting ready to install. Pulling it off to touch-up rust in the future is no easy task.

This is pretty normal. They laser or water jet cut their fancy text in there, plus the bolt holes.

Powdercoat will naturally not adhear to sharp edges with very little surface area, so those spots are natural locations for a tiny bit of surface rust.

Regarding the rust in general, it's not really a big concern, going through plate that thick to impare structural integrity would take decades if not longer.

From an appearance standpoint: I planned to try and get an un-coated unit and weld in their logo before sending to powder coating locally. Not sure if they will do such a thing, if not then grind it down, weld in the logo and Raptor line. Clean the bolt hole and dab some clear coat in there, that will prevent rust.

Ultimately these are minor concerns of vanity. I mean, let's be honest, the IAG plate uses cast aluminum (are you friggen kidding me????) With the hardened steel roll pins to hold it and people are actually interested in that. That thing will fail spectacularly. This just has a bit of rust from using proper steel. I'll take that any day.

Would picking up a small bottle of clearcoat touch-up do the job from the start? Apply a little to the inside edges of the lettering and maybe the accessory mount holes. Not sure I a clearcoat works well with powder coating but if it does this would be an easy rust preventative set.

That's what paintless dent removers have used for years when they have to drill a small hole in a jam for tool access to prevent rust.

A little dab of clear coat over the fresh metal, let it set up and a rubber plug. How it will look on matte powdercoat is unknown. But try to use a matte clear.

If it's a threaded hole you might use in the future you could still use clear, knowing you'll have to chase the thread later if you want to use it.

What about matte black touchup paint? Would that do the same thing? Seems like that would blend in better.

What’s the problem with the IAG? It’s at the top of my list… Dissimilar metals would accelerate corrosion or something?

No doubt it looks fancy. It's not for me for a number of specific reasons but that's a discussion for a different thread. This is about the Hammerbuilt modular tailgate system.
