Hi all,

Happy new year! Been following sixth generation bronco for a while and even live streamed the reveal video back in 2020. Unfortunately did not make a reservation back then and have been kicking myself since.

I am aware that technically new orders are not being placed for broncos and the 2023 order banks only opened for existing reservations/orders.

I actually just called a dealership because I wanted to know if they had any updates to when I could place an order. Interestingly enough they told me they are able to place an order for bronco in the specs I want (2 door black diamond) right now. It was a bit sketchy as it sounds like they would modify the dealer stock they are requesting to include my order, and would charge me 2k on top of msrp. They said they wouldn’t take a deposit but they said they had a large allocation and expected it would arrive in 6 months.

I’m not totally sure if I should do it. I think there’s a risk that there would be nothing tying to me this order and that when it arrives they could just request 10k instead of 2k over.

I know once the order banks officially open if it’s in February/March or not until MY2024, that the banks will be open for just a short amount of time. I don’t want to miss out again so I’m thinking through what makes sense.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

Whatever you do, get it in writing. Hard to screw you with a contract signed by you and them.

Seems like a very low risk proposition for you to engage with the dealer at this time if they won't take a deposit.

I'm in a similar position with my local dealer, but have more confidence that they won't pull the rig out when it gets here.

It's a small town (10k), and they let me put down a deposit and gave me so e paperwork with the VIN and build date (and MRSP).

If you find a better opportunity in the future, you can be pretty confident the dealer will have no problem selling "your" Bronco if you are no longer in the market.

do you think your dealership is using dealer stock to place your order?

I didn't think dealer orders included 2 doors or hard tops at this time. If they were so sure of getting said Bronco why wouldn't they take a deposit? Maybe a bit of gas lighting by said dealer?

For one, a 2-dr Black Diamond is not a dealer stock order. What they have is an abandoned/cancelled order (that they never cancelled), they will update that order with your spec.

You'll have to get the deal in writing (still won't guarantee that they honor it seeing as they are already gaming the order banks with bogus orders). You have nothing at risk or at stake so if they pull the rug from out under you then you have lost nothing.

With that said, a $2K markup isn't terrible for someone who never reserved a spot in line and are able to get into a Bronco within the model year.

1 - Order Banks are closed for customer orders, including roll-over orders. Those had to be completed by Nov 21

2 - Dealers are allowed to order stock builds, but they are constrained on what they are allowed to order.

3 - In theory, 2-Door is a constrained item that dealers are not allowed to order. No hard-top orders for dealers. But, Ford has lied repeatedly during this process, so it's certainly possible.

4 - if you do a statistical analysis of the current 2-door deliveries for this month, the average order time is still well over a year. Got mine 2-months ago (2-door base) after 19 months, and that was the average for the build week. So, 6-months seems very optimistic.

Edit to add: Beach_Bum is likely correct. They may have a customer order for a 2-door, that someone finally gave up on and cancelled. As long as it's not scheduled, they can change it to your specs. They will get dinged on Ford's name match policy, but that only actually hurts small dealerships.

what’s the benefit though? If they don’t take a deposit, it’s not like they financially are gaining anything yet.

I called again, it was relatively confusing. Explained that they had a large allocation of close to 200 broncos and that once I confirmed the order that I would receive the order confirmed email from ford and then vin number/build/scheduling. And he did say he would agree to the purchase price and send the final number.

I tried explaining to him that I’m a new order/not an existing order and he seemed to be totally fine with it. I wonder if he just doesn’t realize that once we go through this that ford might not schedule the bronco because I’m a new order.

I doubt it despite them saying you would in a previous reply. That order will be still be tied to the original order holder's email.

For example, I cancelled an order in February '22. I did it in person and received my deposit back. That dealer never cancelled the order in the order banks. They are using that order for other buyers. To comply with COVP for the '23 rollover, they likely used my credentials on file and signed whatever order confirmation to bypass Ford's hurdles. I received emails this past fall when the order was "confirmed and updated".

Yes, they are. They were very surprised they could get me 90% of what I was looking for. Currently scheduled for 2/13/23 build week.

I've read enough on here to not be holding my breath though.

I’m actually not quite sure. I think he thinks he can place the order but actually can’t.

He will take all of my info build the order, submit it to ford and then I bet Ford will reject it because it’s a new order.

He just kept saying he could submit the order.

I worked with a dealer in September who said they could place an order and then they told me ford kept rejecting the order and they didn’t know why (I had to explain to them it’s because it’s a new order)

I think you are overthinking this. Place the order. Wait. See what happens.

If the dealer is true to his word you will have a shiny new Bronco in about 6 months. If not, you walk away, no harm no foul. $2k over MSRP and you get to skip some of the wait. I would do that.

If order banks were officially open you might have other options. But they are not, so this seems like a zero-risk opportunity for you.

The options are:

1. They don't know that the order banks are closed (doubtful). And will try to submit a new order (which they won't be able based on your build spec).

2. Submit the order under dealer stock of which a 2-dr Black Diamond can't be spec'd for dealer stock.

3. Update an existing "cancelled" order for a 2-dr Black Diamond.

Quick update here: You were right, they did #3. Took an existing 2 door badlands order that cancelled with the dealer and updated with 2 door black diamond since the dealer never sent the cancel to Ford. I wonder if changing it from badlands to black diamond would increase the time?

My name is not associated with this order at all and they will contact me when it gets scheduled/built. I signed a build sheet with the final pricing (MSRP + 2k) and had it signed by the sales manager. I was told I would be contacted when it was scheduled and given a VIN. Said 3 to 6 months but I don't know if I believe that. To be honest, I am not going to hold my breath though. If it works out I will be pleasantly surprised, but if not the plan will be to just order whenever these order banks officially open.
