Moving radar sensor, calibration required?

For those that have replaced their bumper(s). When you relocated the senor was recalibration required? Is there a way to do it with forscan instead of paying the dealer?

It isn’t strictly required but if you don’t put it near the factory location the calibration will be off a bit and it won’t work quite right.

@camojeeper, for example, put his near the factory location which is probably close enough for it to function decently. Most people put theirs behind the grille because if it’s hanging down like that a rock is going to gobble it up. When you put it behind the grille you really should get it calibrated.

There is no way to do it in Forscan. Also should be noted that many dealers won’t do the calibration unless it is using factory-approved locations. So you’ll probably have to find a dealer that specializes in aftermarket upgrades.

Yep, dealers can be a weird bunch. Last time I had to deal with a radar sensor it was from a collision. The sensor was replaced and when I installed it it was in a new location. I took it to a dealer, and they charged me $300ish to "calibrate" it. In hindsight most of the problem was probably in the programming the new part instead of actual calibration.

Exactly I’m not I love with the location but I’m still in the process of armoring it to take a hit

You make a great point. I think when I’m playing in the rocks I will just remove it. Two bolts one plug and it off the bronco

yes, with FDRS, care to spend a few hundred dollars?

FDRS at its least expensive is $50 for a two day license, and $900 for a 1 year license. The minimum price for the required J2534 pass-through adapter is $120, but most people are not thrilled with it and go with a $500 adapter. The $120 adapter works great for me, but YMMV.

Not an expert on that, but I believe it might. Yes, FDRS is the one for newer vehicles.
