Manual transmission scraping noise / grinding sound

Has anyone replaced the transmission oil? I’ve heard the transmissions in the mustang have basically the same problem and it eliminates the noise.

I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m definitely gonna let the techs at Ford know about this before they do anything mayor on it. Have you seen any threads anywhere about the same noise happening to Mustang manual transmissions? If so let me know please.

Sounds like we've got 2 noices going on. One is worse in cold weather and one is a low speed scrapping noise. Question for the low speed scrapping crowd. Did you just buy them?

just sold my 2022 2dr badlands 7mt
there was window issue , then roof issue and the straw that broke the camels back was the transmission issue. I had it into ford quite a few times. called customer service and got the we will get ford techs on it , they have no fix , seen people replacing transmissions only to have the same problem happen again, no thanks - new vehicle and not cheap..... well in price, I decided to move on. Bronco only had 5600km shortest and lowest milage vehicle I have ever owned and sold

hope they come out with a fix for everyone else that is experiencing this problem. It sucks u wait so long for something and then this happens

Mine does both noises I assumed they are one and the same with differences in severity.

As for when I got mine. It was delivered in June 9th with 10 miles and the noise for me didn’t start until at about 700 miles.

I'm still wondering if we have a low fluid issue. If ford us sending them low in fluid I'm sure the dealers aren't catching it

Part of it would make sense for the noise itself but it seems like with the number of these being looked at you’d think that should be an easy diagnosis. Let alone Ford engineers having these trans replaced to inspect the old ones then not coming out stating the issue or a tsb to check fill right away.
Maybe some sort of viscosity issue especially with the air temp variance. However mine doesn’t even need cold air or engine temp anymore It can be 75 on my way home from work and it will still scrape at low speeds as I try to embarrassingly sneak out of the parking lot without people noticing.

The only problem is you have to have them completely drained to send them back to ford so they wouldn't know. Has anyone checked your fluid level?

This would make sense. I recently got mine, i have about 270 miles in it and it makes that scraping noise in 1st and 2nd (also when shes getting warmed up). Hard to tell if its the cold thats affecting the viscosity of the transmission oil and the shrinking of bushing, gears etc of the transmission (I live in Michigan and we get some cold weathers up here, currently 20F) But when i go to Ford on Monday ill let the technician verify if i have metal shavings or if its low on fluid before the do something mayor in it.

will do soon. Im going to drop my Bronco off at Ford on Monday and leave it there over night since they want to recreate the noise on a cold start. Ill make sure to let them know about the transmission fluid level and its condition. Will keep you all update it.

Mine started before cold weather hit. In the video I took after about a few weeks of just dealing with it, it was near 65 degrees outside, however my Bronco was in my insulated garage and still made the noise.

With regards to the noise going away, mine does not. I drove 30 minutes of mixed road and highway to the dealership, for a shop foreman ride-along. He was prompt so about 3 minutes after I arrived he drove with me and he head the noise right away on a very warm transmission. The scheduled me in to drop it off a few weeks later , which now happens to be Monday the 28th. Thus in my case, cold didn't really seem to matter ,however may make the noise a little more acute.

Yes mine is exactly like this too the cold only makes it more noticeable but it’s always making the noise at slow speeds.

grinding noise when cold at first went away when warm but after another 2000km it started to stick around a little longer when warm.
if i rode on the highway for a long period of time it would lock me out of second gear until i turn the engine off and let everything cool down.
if i moved the shifter towards 6th the noise would go away as well if i pushed the clutch in. had it at dealership more times in one month than i had my f150 in 4 years , it was time to move on. ford should have done better quality control and not gone with a getrag transmission , we all know what happened with 2011-2017 mustangs

The part that pains me the most is the wait time that most of had to go through to get the Broncos. Sorry you had to go through this.

I see, I will be taking mine to Ford on Monday as well. We’ll see what happens, I hope they can release a TSB soon.
