4.46 vs 4.7 Gear Ratio Discussion

haha, more like 11.5. My 13 gallon tank would last 150 miles or so. This was better than my '95 Bronco 351W which got 11 with a tail wind.

this is perfectly acceptable for 700 whp cobra or really anything else with 700 whp

My E85 tuned stock turbo STi only got about 15 mpg with a measly 350 whp. Still worth it!

Ford could have saved us a lot of mearly academic discussion by offering ratios with at least.a 10 percent spread ie 3.73, 4.
27 and 4.70. The guys that need more could aftermarket to 5.38 or whatever.

They weren't doing it for us. It was to keep the MPG numbers simple.

The math checks out.

However IMHO, with these deep overdrives, we're all a bit undergeared. I wish I had 5.13s with 35s. 4.70 with the 33s felt pretty good but even 4.88 would have been nice.

Yeah, if I ever have to replace my front axle, I'll be going 4.88s. 6th gear is pretty much useless for me.

2.3 manual badlands get the 4.7 gears as well. Granted, it is the only configuration non squatched that has the 4.7's, but very few people get manuals anymore

Yes you're correct, but thats not what the post was for. I was explaining the difference in gear ratios. Thanks for the reply though bud!

To the contrary. With different gearing,
the ABS system will be receiving different inputs from what was originally programmed... Right now the vehicle knows that at certain speeds the ABS sensors will generate a certain amount of electricity. If the voltage received doesn't match the speedometer, the vehicle thinks it is spinning and engages the traction system or CEL. There will be no way to change the gearing and retain normal operation without either programming or a resistor. Unless you know something that I don't?

Kinda like changing tire size? Same, same. The computer doesn't care as long as everything is turning the same. My speedo/odometer is currently off by 9%. It's not a problem. If it is a problem, it will be easy enough to reprogram.

I’m happy with the 4.46 and the 7MT with Sasquatch Bilsteins and 34”. But, I agree with @kodiakisland - 6th gear is useless. I’m never above 80 MPH.
