IKamper BDV VS. GFC Platform RTT

Once I get ADV’s hardtop and Trailrax TRMR, I’m looking at a RTT. Wedge style is most appealing so I’ve been debating a couple.

One of largest selling point is GFC is made in the US. Following their products and how they are each hand crafted makes me feel better spending more for the quality and care.

It’ll usually be me, my GF, and a 65 LB doggo. Not sure which size suites is better but if anyone has any input, it’d be greatly appreciated!!

That dogo a pup still? 65 is pretty low for a dogo. Usually around 80-105. Great dogs. Hunt by winding.

I just meant a dog haha my bad. Not gonna lie, didn’t know a dogo was a breed. Mines a silver lab so apologies for the confusion!

I have the GFC RTT V2 and I can say it’s very well made. Me and the wife have done some backyard camping with it as I’m still waiting for my bronco to be scheduled. So I can’t offer any input as far as it being mounted on a bronco. I can say that there’s plenty of space for my wife and I in the tent. We have a 145lb American Bully and I will say he def won’t fit in there with us. The GFC feels strictly like a 2 person tent imo.

I have since installed carpet on the tent floor and replaced the stock mattress with an Exped Megamat Duo air mattress. Super comfortable in there now.

FYI, I think the weight is wrong on the Ikamper site. Seem to remember reading the single was ~135 lbs, but the duo is 175 lbs. That ends up being a pretty significant weight difference to the gfc.

While the wedge styles are awesome and I will probably be getting one for myself and maybe one dog they can be rather tight. I had a soft style one previously and the space was never an issue with two dogs and my wife in there.

I would start getting your dog use to being lifted over head height now as mine took a while to get used to it.

I got to the point where I would just keep the dogs in the rear seat with a bunch of blankets. They seemed happier back there anyways.

I haven't seen either in person. But from what I've seen online the GFC seems incredibly well made. If I ever get one I'd go with that. Check out the video from Story Till Now where he goes to their factory to check it out.

I think this is a camper GFC makes and its 5 inches wider but nonetheless, tyty. Justin Mcbride has a video out on the platform and I've been meticulously watching videos on that. Take a peak if you wanna check it out as well!

Same video that made me purchase my GFC RTT. He’s def not lying about condensation. Will def need a solution for that. I’m installing a fan in the ceiling to help.

Are you able to store bedding and pillows in the tent and still close properly?

Are you able to store bedding and pillows in the tent and still close properly?

I store my exped mega mat duo (deflated), aeronaut hoverquilt and our pillows in there and it closes no problem. No issues while we camped in Moab and Colorado back in October. I literally just pop the tent, inflate mattress and get in bed. Everything is already prepped and ready to go.
