depends on if you have the advanced transfer case or not. Non advanced there is a deal mounted to the front diff unit that disengages.
advanced is just the transfer case that disengages. Everything spins there are no”Hubs” per se the front axles are splined and bolted like a front wheel drive car.
This post says the M190 has the FAD while the M210 does not. So it wouldn't be based on transfer case, but front axle selection.

This is how most modern 4x4 vehicles work. There is an intermediate shaft (21) that electronically separates the axle. Due to the diff being open (or an e-locker), when you separate that axle all that will turn in the pumpkin are the spider gears, not the diff, not the drive shafts.

Looks like the Bronco has a version that does that:

And a version that doesn't, everything still turns including the drive shaft. Locking hubs would be beneficial if it were possible (which it really isn't because the drive axles spline directly into the unit bearings).

I have m190 outer banks 4.27 gears no fad advanced transfer case. The sad package includes the advanced transfer case. I’m not sure on the non sas badlands but it has the m210 as well.

I personally loved the locking hubs of the past. Most of the time I left them unlocked and whenever on paved roads. I only locked them when going off road- or I knew when the trail was going to get bad. Then you can go in and out of 4WD when you needed to. When you were done 4 wheeling or back to paved roads, simply unlock the hubs. People got too lazy to lock the hubs or it was too inconvenient.

I do see that some of the F250's so have locking hubs.....and almost every time I see one, I can see everything turning- they are locked when driving on the main, paved roads. What's the point of having the locking hubs if you leave them off all the time?

oh. Why in the hell would a modern 4x4 have manual locking hubs?

I don’t get it
As a retired farmer I would unlock the front hubs and use 4 wheel low for heavy road hauling of wagons and equipment down the road.
You don't need/want 4 wheel drive just the low gearing.

So which version(s) does the Bronco(s) have? I have a Basesquatch and was wondering. I have not yet jacked up the front end to see if everything turns in 2WD. I suspect everything is connected and spins as I cannot spin the driveshaft when I am under the vehicle with all 4 wheels on the ground.

Let’s approach this from a different perspective. As a farmer would you grow a crop that has very little demand?

my father in law is a farmer and uses tractors to pull heavy loads. No way in hell would he ever use his truck

As a retired farmer I would unlock the front hubs and use 4 wheel low for heavy road hauling of wagons and equipment down the road.

Do you have a picture of your axle?

For decades now, Ford has used a vacuum actuation system to automatically lock the front hubs when 4wd modes are engaged. All F-150s got it. When they work, they work great, but they're a frequent pain point.

Ok, so Sasquatch I can tell you does NOT have the axle disconnect.

As far as jacking it up to see what turns in 2wd, that doesn't help. The transfer case will disconnect the front so it won't turn up in the air. That's not the problem. It's the ground turning the wheels which then back-drives the drivetrain (diff and drive shafts) It's the friction plus the energy it takes to move the rotating mass.

Ya I don't think Ford has used vacuum actuation for a while now. Everything is electronically controlled now.

my ‘17 superduty was still vacuum. They have a electric solenoid in-line but still vacuum driven.

Ya the Superduty line is a little slower to get re-designs...

HATED getting out to turn those in the snow. Personally glad locking hubs are gone.

I think we could get near 23mpg rated if the hubs unlocked tho. But it’s a small price to pay for not having the hassle of them failing.
