Not paying 80.00 for SYN. Don't need updates
From the manual:Yeah, I almost missed it but then got a little nervous when I clicked the link. I get these updates are probably rare and the chances of needing the vehicle during the exact time of an update is unlikely but it will happen eventually with enough units.
- For updates that require your vehicle to be turned off, the door locks will remain as they were (locked or unlocked) when the update starts. Personal belonging should be removed from your vehicle or secured prior to beginning the update.
You can't update without it... still not paying 80.00 a year for it...
All Bronco's come with Sync. You can't update without it... still not paying 80.00 a year for it...
Your Bronco has SYNC and a cellular connection that handles the updates. And your not paying a penny for it (penny more than what you paid for this upfront in the cost of vehicleYou can't update without it... still not paying 80.00 a year for it...
None of this is helpful. From the manual:
Over the Air System Update Requirements Before updating, reference this list to make sure your vehicle is ready be updated. If these requirements are not met during a scheduled update, the update will be canceled and you can reschedule. • Your vehicle is not running. • Your vehicle is stopped. • Your vehicle is parked. • The hazard indicators are switched off. • The alarm is not sounding. • The doors are closed. • The parking lights are switched off. • You are not pressing the brake pedal. • An emergency call is not in progress. • Your vehicle is not in limp mode.
What you posted doesn't say you can't unlock the doors. It says the update won't change the state of the doors. Reading comprehension.None of this is helpful.
Let's think of an easy scenario. Sick kid you want to take to the ER at 2 AM.
Your Bronco is parked outside overnight so all of those requirements in the list you posted will be met. Update happens and according to FORD you can't unlock the doors.
How do you do any of those things to stop the update?
So try again I guess or just admit you didn't know there were complex updates that may not let you use the vehicle for up to an hour.
I didn't know until this post today.
Then why do they tell you to take your belongings and that "You will not be able to use your vehicle"? And why would anyone even care about scheduling these updates if you just hop in and the update cancels and restarts later? What you posted doesn't say you can't unlock the doors. It says the update won't change the state of the doors. Reading comprehension.
Is there an update to fix all the bad 2.7 liter engines with bad valves or notify anyone with a 2.7 if there engine has the bad valvesNever miss a software update!
- Set a recurring schedule: For more complex software updates, your vehicle cannot be driven during the installation (typically up to 1 hour). We recommend setting a recurring schedule for a time when your vehicle is not needed (like overnight).
- Confirm you have Automatic Updates ON: Most software updates happen in the background while you are driving as long as you have automatic updates toggled ON. This setting is ON by default but we ask that you check your settings screen to confirm.
Both actions can be completed from the settings screen in your vehicle. Click here for step by step instructions.
I have another car. I'm not really worried about this for myself. But if it is true the car becomes unavailable for an hour during updates Ford should be more explicit about it.@thatspecialbeat Just turn off auto updates. When you need to update, rent a car beforehand and BOOM! problem solved! Bronco is updated and you have a bug out vehicle if shit his the fan!![]()
If you're that worried about an emergency coming up at that moment, simply disable automatic updates, and only perform manual updates when you have a second vehicle available.1. How do we decline any updates that aren't 100% necessary for safety?
2. I'm not ok with my vehicle being randomly inoperable for an hour. What if there is an emergency? Was this supposed to be disclosed to us before buying the vehicle? I was pretty knowledgeable about everything and didn't hear this before.
Edit: Or what if my wife is working late somewhere and the car decides it's parked for the night and updates leaving her unable to leave until the update is done?
I agree. Hey @Ford Motor Company can you clear this up?Then why do they tell you to take your belongings and that "You will not be able to use your vehicle"? And why would anyone even care about scheduling these updates if you just hop in and the update cancels and restarts later?
But probably the physical key would work even if the fob doesn't so I'll agree you can get a door open.
Maybe we can get @Ford Motor Company to confirm.
If there is a complex update, can you just turn on the vehicle and the update will stop and you can drive it or does the update have to finish before it can be driven?
