I wanted the Ford slide out tailgate, but they never got them for factory install before my ‘22 was built. So I made my own solution to bridge until those are available after market. I also maintained access to the Jack and storage cubby.

Easy parts lists:
Kiln Dried 4x4’s
4x8 sheet
24 inch heavy duty slides
A marine grade carpet
Piano hinge
4 tie downs
The rest are bolts, washers, screws, and staples.

I didn’t make full plans list, but if you can build with wood this is not too difficult. The one tip I do have is the angle for the wood up against the backseats is 35 degrees. I cut that with a mitre for the 4x4 and ripped that end of the plywood with a table saw, both set at 35. I also used a pressed board for the platform. I only need this to last one to two years until I can get my hands on the Ford option. And I wanted to keep the cost under $150, with half of that being the slides that I’ll repurpose. But you could easily use a marine grade wood and get many years out of it.

Man I’d love to see someone figure out a way to make the 2 door floor extendable with thee swing gate open, and enclosed somehow for sleeping. A tent of some kind coming off the back would do it. Sure would be nice as an option for camping.

This looks awesome. How much weight do you think the table can hold when partially and fully extended?

The drawer slides say they are rated for 225 lbs. I won’t push that, and I doubt it would really hold up. But I’ve pushed down pretty hard on it. I’d say it’s safe up to 150. I’ll certainly pull out my full cooler and gear box without worrying.

This is fantastic. I did something similar but without the slide out portion, but I now need to re-do everything to make room for a subwoofer. Where did you get the heavy duty slides? Can you share the dimensions of the top piece of wood, the platform? Measuring to make it fit perfectly is a challenge that I want to take on with my version 2.0 build. I also plan on using field turf to cover the top of the platform instead of the truck bed spray I used on my initial build.

Creative design and great execution, my friend. Maintaining access to the jack and storage cubby was brilliant! Nice work! 😎

I got the slides off Amazon. You can find them at hardware stores, but Amazon had the same brands for cheaper. It’s all China made stuff, and most likely the same factoring spitting them all out and just tagging different names on them.

I didn’t record any of the measurements, but I used my tape measure and scratch paper to route the cuts. I believe I started with a 37 & 48 piece to make the platform. But I notched around the sides and the rear door pieces to make it as snug as I could with the gate shut. If you just wanted to cut a rectangle to fit, that would be much quicker.
