You can close all the dash vents and switch the air to Floor, but what happens is all the air comes out the defroster and side window vents.

Another issue we noticed on our recent road trip is this:

Let’s say you have the air set at 72°, and the outside air is 60°. You’ll have heat blowing out the vents, as it should. But suddenly, you’ll notice cold air coming out, and it turns out the outside temp has risen to 62°. If you click it up to 74°, you’ll get heat again.

So it seems like you have to keep the temperature control at least 11° higher than the outside temp, otherwise you’ll get cold air blowing. Which I find incredibly weird. Then, the opposite would happen. All of a sudden you would feel way too hot for no reason! I’ve never had a vehicle where I had to continuously chase a good temperature setting like this…
Is this in Auto setting? I have not noticed this with it set manually. But I remember our Expedition doing what you are explaining when set on "Auto".

Honestly, I don’t even know! Sometimes the Auto button is lit up, sometimes it isn’t, and I don’t even know what we’re hitting to make it change. I think the Auto turns off when you change the fan speed manually, which we always do, because anything higher than #1 is like a hurricane. It’s the most unintuitive A/C system I’ve ever dealt with. My F150 XL is so easy. I just want to be able to set the temp knob where I like it, choose which vent(s) I want the air coming out of, and select the fan speed and forget about it. But this system requires constant fidgeting… 🤪

My Raptor does this as well. 72 is on the bubble to heat or A/C. At 72 it may blow cold air. bump to 73-74 and it is warm.

I will be experimenting with some design and ways to fix this in as little of a hassle as possible for anyone who wants to correct it. I have some ideas already that should not be above anyone with the ability to use some hand tools. My daughter reported a warmer environment in the rear on Sunday, however she still was wearing the blanket... To Be Continued!

Any updates / fixes for this issue? I haven't seen a post from anyone who went to their dealer yet. This is seriously awful though, it was -4 where I live this morning and my feet were freezing on my way to work. How is this acceptable for a brand new vehicle 🥶

How about a fix for everyone and not just for those that raise the issue?

ok you guys are gonna think I'm crazy (and I might be):

I turned off auto and cranked the fan full speed. Then I unchecked all the options (windshield/defrost, chest, feet) you know those three directionals.

When I set the temp to low, still no auto, the vents would switch to the chest level one. When I set it high, it would switch to the usual floor and defrost vents. I'm judging this by air movement, nothing is changing on my setting on screen with the directionals.

But it was 55 degrees outside. When I slowly adjusted it up from lo to 68 degrees, all the vents closed except the floor, with noticeable pressure increase there as well.

I'm talking no air movement from the windshield, those side vent things along the windows, or any of the chest level ones. Only air coming out was driver feet, passenger feet, and slightly more then usual to the second row.

So this tells me the ducting does in fact have a way to shut all the way down for each area.

Don't believe me? Try it. Full fan speed, no auto, scroll throw each degree and the air movement will change. Will you find the magic temp setting that gives full blast power to the feet?

@Ford Motor Company Seems like a software correction.

Temps supposed to drop almost 20 degrees tomorrow, I will see if the sweet spot changes

Edit: yes with the temp change the sweet spot of 1-3 degrees also changed. It dropped with the temperature. Also, I almost forgot my own direction, you have to change the fan speed to really disable the auto; just manually adjusting the directional thingies does not disable auto when you turn them all off.

My heat has been fine all winter.
does your heat flow through only the floor vents? or floor and windshield?

that's my problem at least. the heat is sufficient.

Is this really how you plan to handle this issue Ford?
one VIN at a time?
There is an obvious design flaw in the ducting!
I can select defrost and dash vents to off with the floor selected on, put the fan on high (it sounds like a hurricane going on behind the dash) and there is not enough airflow by my feet to blow out a candle!!!
how about a fix for everyone?
I‘m not too keen on dropping it off at my dealership for a week (or more) to have them “troubleshoot”.
You are aware of the problem, it is time to address it…

Both. Never had cold tootsies nor a frozen windshield.

My heat has been fine all winter.
Where are you located? I'm in Northeast Georgia, on days when it was in the twenties the heat was still okay, but if my feet got cold or I was outside for a long time and then I try to jump in the Bronco to go, the lack of floor heat was noticeable.

My other vents were perfectly fine and the vehicle would get warm eventually just like any other car, but there was a noticeable lack of warm air on your feet.

Is it the end of the world? No, but not something you expect from a brand new vehicle.
