Hey Guys!

Nick here again with some VERY exciting news that we wanted to share! We didn't waste any time digging into our Bronco and are already well underway into our performance intercooler development! Make sure that you head over to our engineering blog for the full scoop!

HIGH ROAD – 2021+ FORD BRONCO 2.3L/2.7L PERFORMANCE INTERCOOLER R&D, PART 1 – STOCK REVIEW AND DESIGN PLANS

Ford Bronco Mishimoto's Performance Intercooler R&D Thread NLT_9487-1-scaled

Ford’s latest iteration of the Bronco is designed for the high road. Ford sidelined its purpose-built off-road machine for quite some time but wanted to ensure that the return of such a legendary model would tackle the wilderness with ease and better than the stiff competition. Ford put mountains of thought and engineering into the modern Broncos to earn the true meaning of G.O.A.T. mode. Even after the extended time spent engineering the Bronco’s return, a few aspects could leave the Bronco in the dust, precisely when it comes to the intercooling system. Lucky for you, though, we’re already on the case to ensure that your 2.3L or 2.7L’s charged air temperatures are properly managed for true off-road domination.

....

The biggest mark against the Bronco’s intercooler is the mounting location. In theory, Ford’s placement is ideal for maximum performance since it’s located front and center on the vehicle with a dedicated port for airflow. However, given the rugged nature of this platform, winches and other off-roading necessities are also dancing through owners’ minds. The trouble is, most of these accessories would block much-needed airflow through the intercooler, so we’re going to move it.
Ford Bronco Mishimoto's Performance Intercooler R&D Thread NLT_3004-scaled

Ford utilized the same intercooler for both the 2.7L and the 2.3L engine options. While the 2.3L is a heavy-hitting engine, two turbos are going to push more air through the system. This intercooler design splits the difference and provides adequate daily driving cooling for each engine, but will more than likely heat soak, and become a bottleneck for those demanding more from their EcoBoost engines.
Make sure that you head to the engineering blog to get a peek at what we have planned for the Bronco's intercooling system! As always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions that you might have

Our catch cans are currently in production, so we're moving forward with other projects while that wraps up! I'll make sure to keep you guys in the loop over on that thread as we get closer to the presale.

So can I fix this direct on my wildtrck without any modification? I mean without adjust the shutters and road monitoring sensor ?

Thanks

@Mishimoto Any update on the High-Mount Intercooler? Saw Your other post about
Stock Location you point everyone over here for the high mount.
We'll have some more on the high-mount updates coming soon! We're still plugging away at that one too

The high-mounted intercooler will require some modification, specifically when it comes to those components. There's not enough clearance behind the grille shutters so those will have to be removed, which does throw a code on stock tuned vehicles. I've been seeing some DIY work arounds though that the Raptor folks have been doing that might also be applicable to this vehicle too.

As for the road monitoring sensor/adaptive cruise control, we're planning to include a relocation bracket for this so you can still use that feature.

So we will be getting a mishimoto grill soon ;) how much do you have to cut out of the grill? But it would be cool to buy a grill that would work with this intercooler/ has the mounting points for adapted cruise control built in

HIGH ROAD – 2021+ FORD BRONCO 2.3L/2.7L PERFORMANCE INTERCOOLER R&D, PART 2 – PROTOTYPING

Ford Bronco Mishimoto's Performance Intercooler R&D Thread NLT_3168

Hitting the high road is not for the unprepared. This road less traveled is pocked with treacherous trenches and littered with rocky obstacles. While your Bronco is designed to glide over such tribulations, even the more hardened off-roader is still prepared for the eventuality that even Ford’s mighty Bronco might get stuck. From training to shakedown trips, combined with the necessary recovery gear, man, gear, and machine make for the optimal off-roading team, and we want to make sure that your Bronco is ready for any excursion.

We take on the same concept here at Mishimoto as we make clearance for winches while improving your Bronco’s performance. Relocating the intercooler, especially a vehicle with technology dripping from every corner, is complex, to say the least. Where our 3D scanning equipment and modeling software provide a scale virtual workspace for our engineers, nothing can top physically installing the design into the vehicle. So, to help streamline our process, we fired up our welders and 3D printers to fabricate our fitment prototype. Read more...

I'd like to see a side-by-side of before/after to get a better idea of what I'm looking at.

Kudos to your design engineers and fabricators!
