pesonally I would only want a bronco that is 100% complete. Like you said, it will a logistical nightmare to try to coordinate it after the fact. Bronco6g does not know what it is getting itself into. There are so many variables introduced in the equation once Ford tries to add chips to your your bronco that is sitting in your garage.
It really won't be that big of a deal. I'm sure it will be handled like a recall. The VIN numbers can be tracked easily. It's not even that many broncos effected, compared to some safety recalls involving half a million cars in the past.

The numbers involved can grow moving forward depending upon supply issues. That may make it a bigger problem in the future. More of an inconvenience for owners at the moment. Will have to bring in broncos, ect for retrofit.

Dealers will take the sales.

I would take my Bronco with modules to be installed later. Given some of the quality issues I've seen here, I have a suspicion I'll be have to bring it back to the dealer at some point anyway.

Bad news gets released on Fridays, really bad news gets released on weekends. However, depending on your point of view, such as ICE Mountain, you may see this as good news.

Article link: Ford will ship and sell vehicles without chips controlling non-safety critical features

Ford executives told dealers the company would provide the missing parts for dealers to install within one year.
Vehicles will be Drivable and Sellable

Most recently, what appeared to be hundreds if not thousands of Broncos were piling up in Michigan. Ford said the backlog was chip-related.

This information came of the National Auto Dealers Association Show in Las Vegas on Saturday, where Ford executives, including Andrew Frick, general manager for sales, distribution and trucks for Ford Blue spoke during a meeting of the company’s franchised dealers. The source of the information is Automotive News, one of the automotive industries leading news sources, not "my dealer said".

I've been advised that due to Automotive News being a pay-wall publication we are not allowed to repost their articles in its entirety so I've summarized the main points above. I discovered the article through this Google News link where it was not blocked.

Two other news websites have picked up the article now as well.

The Ford Broncos Piling Up at Ice Mountain Will Get to Customers, But There's a Catch

Report: Ford to sell cars without some non-safety related chips, install them later
There needs to be a corresponding reduction in sticker price. Obviously, customers will not be receiving what they paid for otherwise.

I wonder if Ford will inform us of what equipment won’t work before they ship? I am now on the fence I don’t know if I want to take delivery of a vehicle that has no ETA on chips.
This could affect GOAT mode, sway bar disconnects, 4WD, navigation, radio, heated seats and the list goes on and on….
Naw, that's part of the fun, discovering which particular feature doesn't work on YOUR new Bronco! πŸ‘

I'm glad they are making decisions to ship without the chips, but I wonder how much it is costing them in rework and software to jump out or ignore the alerts from all of these "missing" systems. And then reflash everything once the chips are added.

to be clear, dealers don't install chips as part of a recall BUT we will find out soon enough if this goes smoothly.

What if.... the dealer installs the chip but it doesn't work because quality control was not able to verify it worked.

I am cracking up reading these responses. Do people even understand that nothing has been said by Ford about releasing Bronco's with reduced functionality?
I agree, the article is speculating that Ice Mountain will be included but nothing at all from Ford that this includes the Bronco. Spoke with my dealer twice in the last 4 days and he has heard absolutely nothing in regards to the Bronco with this news.

Hello fellow B6G members! My vehicle has been "Built" as of 3/8/22 and is awaiting shipment. Should I expect to be one of the vehicles shipping without chips? I know it may be hard to speculate. Thanks y'all!

if yours just came off the line then it's probably complete. the broncos on ice mountain are incomplete. Ford prioritizes the production line.

I’d just take a steering wheel or something. Like, β€œhere’s the wheel for the Bronco we can’t build.” At least than I’d feel appreciated.
