Ford will ship Broncos without chips controlling non-safety critical features

I can’t think of a single reason as to how it would benefit ford by not including the Ice Mountain Broncos in this new plan. I can, however, think of many reasons as to how ford would benefit……starting with 3-4 thousand broncos being sold, but then again, it is ford we’re taking about.

We don't know what our ice mountain orders are missing. Some of the missing parts bay not be "non-safety non-critical". I've run out of optimism during this process. I'll just wait and see.

The devil is in the details. An I okay buying a stripped down Bronco sooner. Yes. I bought a Basesquash.

Am I okay paying extra for features that don't work? Not really. If I had ordered the lux package, I wouldn't be happy paying if it didn't work in full. I'd want some kind of credit or arrangement there.

I am waiting on the Badlands Sas with Lux. The only thing I would be twisted about on this shortcut is if they sent me my rig with a bricked Sync 4 or trail cams.

Jesus H. Christ. When this article dropped, I couldn’t even imagine there would be a downside to getting your vehicle scheduled and built or off ice mountain, even if it lacked heated seats or some other creature comfort or nanny aide wasn’t available for a while. But, apparently I have underestimated the cynicism and insatiable appetite for bitching and complaining with this group.
I would say….if your seat warmer doesn’t work and it’s twenty below in April or May, then park it in the garage until it warms up for f**k sakes. If the radio don’t work, get out your iPhone and earbuds, or an effing boom box, etc., etc. I swear…..it’s no wonder Ford is always effing with us……we’re a miserable, whiny lot that can never be satisfied.

Shipping incomplete vehicles is something other automakers have been doing for almost a year folks. This is NOT Ford’s fault. To your point, thank you for stating it. I am astounded at the amount of complaining. I have 25 yrs in the business and even I have NO idea how Ford should have handled a global chip shortage (not to mention the staffing problems, storage, crappy weather, supply chains issues, all which they have no control over.). Logistically, it has probably been a nightmare. However, I would guess a company who has been successful for over 100 years, is likely using the best solution they have given the circumstances. I could be wrong, but I am going to assume that most of us on here complaining, myself included, have never had to devise a plan to handle such an undertaking. It clearly is not a perfect plan and certainly, without perfect execution. Ordering vehicles is going to become increasingly more prevalent. It’s much more cost effective and it ensures customers don’t necessarily need to make compromises when choosing vehicles on dealer lots. When the microchip problem is resolved, I would not be surprised to see more “order takers” and “delivery specialists” employed by larger dealers, and less traditional salespeople. Just the evolution of the car business.

100% agree BUT bronco6g likes to complain and go against the grain at every opportunity. If Ford holds vehicles for chips then bronco6g gets angry and if they release them while waiting for chips then bronco6g still gets angry. No matter what Ford can’t win

Interesting article thanks. . Couldn’t see it all but the one year doesn’t matter that much to me. It means you go without a seat heater or auto stop for a while. But you have your vehicle. The one year is probably a worse case. Would love it if they would do this for ice mountain/ chip hold. Like now.

If it was auto stop/start, ship the the thing to me and leave it off the due bill. It will save me the $99 for the eliminator and an hour of my time futzing around to install it.

It appears our Broncos would either sit at ice mountain for up to a year or not be built at all while waiting on some creature comfort nanny module. Would it not be better to have it spend that year in your garage. I mean, say it is waiting on something silly like an auto start/stop module that literally no one wants anyways, or a heated steering wheel module? Are these things that would prevent someone from driving it? And If so, wouldn’t it be batter to have it in your own driveway or garage until the chip shows up?

Many of you guys are reading too much into it. Just because it says "drivable and sellable" doesn't mean you have to drive it. WOULD YOU RATHER IT SIT AT ICE MOUNTAIN OR AT YOUR HOME UNTIL IT IS FIXED??? Myself, even if I didn't plan to drive it until it is completed, I'd rather it be at my house than in some mouse-infested, dryrot-inducing parking lot. If the modules aren't available, they're not available. You choose where you want the vehicle to be parked until they are. Nothing more, nothing less. At least you have the benefit of driving it if you want to while you wait.

Your points are valid for some, not so much for others. If you are paying cash or can afford to own or finance multiple vehicles, that is one thing. For some, it will be their only vehicle, financed, and required to be a daily driver. For them, they cannot simply afford to finance the Bronco, only to park it. Further, this would not allow them to trade-in their existing daily driver since they still need it for daily living.

The point is, everyone's situation is different, what is right for you may not be right for them.

Originally didn't make any mention of this because it is a classic "My dealer said..."

However... My dealer said, that last week they signed off with Ford that the vehicles would be delivered to sit on the dealer lot to await chips rather than ice/dirt/etc mountain, so this news is very much in line with that.

If it is drivable without the chips then heck yeah I'll take it and park it at my house where I know 100% it won't be getting butts in the seat every day until it's completed.

I would think that anyone who ordered any feature that they are not getting on delivery to not have to pay for any of those features until they actually receive them. I would urge every state's attorney general to vigorously enforce the current consumer protection laws.

I think this is great news! Plus, if you don't want a vehicle that may need to go back to the dealer for "chips", just refuse to accept it and order another one, and wait a year or two.

You live in Alabama, right? Why does it matter if you don't have heated seats as winter is ending and spring is starting?

helps with back pain. I was using heated seats in Corvette in August.
