Practical Fire Extinguisher Placement

Pic Below shows my placement of the Element fire extinguisher. It is held in place by a magnetic holder (sold by Element). I'm really pleased. There is a demonstration of the extinguisher on the Element website. In addition to the Element website, Jay Leno featured it on his show and is a believer of this product.

I had not either. I believe they are fairly new. Customer service was great. Fast shipping. Additionally, it doesn’t have an expiration date, doesn’t cause a mess and is safe to breathe.

Seems like you have to get a lot closer to the flame and wind is not friendly.

Element seems like a good purchase for the kitchen/house.

Looks good other than where it’s stored. If at all possible, I’d place it in a spot that I could quickly reach from the driver’s seat either before I exit or just after I exit the vehicle.

I was about to order and use that magnet and store under front passenger seat? I saw a piece of metal there but never grabbed a magnet to test. Lmk if anyone tries that spot.

I used a seat rail mount on the passenger side. Easy to grab in an emergency.

Element sells the magnet holder and I think they spec 1 per unit. I went ahead and got 2 since I was doing an angle on the roll bar. Microfiber towel on the back to prevent scratching, since replaced with ppf on the paint. Magnets are super strong, and the fit is tight. One probably gets the job done.

As a fire suppression professional, I personally wouldn’t purchase this product. The long discharge time seems nice, but is only achievable due to low agent flow rate. For comparison, an Ansul brand 5# ABC dry chemical has a discharge time of 9 seconds, during which time it discharges all 5 pounds of agent. This allows to suppress large fires quickly. Additionally, a 5# ABC dry chem extinguisher is effective at a range of 14 feet. Watch the videos and you’ll see that the Element seems to only work at a range of inches. How close can you get to a hot car fire? Element is also not rated or approved by UL, USCG, DOT, FM, or any other approving body.

This looks like something to skip over. At $80 it’s very overpriced, especially for a disposable. Spend $60 instead on a nice rechargeable 5# Ansul or Amerex, or even cheap out and pick up a $20 First Alert (I don’t recommend this).

There’s a reason why fire extinguisher design is largely unchanged since the 50s: they work.

I forget who makes it, but that solid molle attchment system for the driver-side center console would be a good spot.
