Do I need hard shackles with this set-up?

I just ordered 2 of these soft shackles:

Should I also get hard shackles for the front bumper or do the soft shackles work with no downsides on the front modular bumper recovery points?

You will cut the soft shackles on the sharp edges of the Shackle pin holes, buy the hard ones.

D-ring shackle mount for the sharpe hole edge detail example only.

Don’t have my bronco so don’t know how rounded the holes in the recovery points are. If they are rounded with no sharp edges there is no need for D shackles. That is assuming of course that the hole in your recovery point is large enough to put the soft shakle through.

Soft are all you need. Lighter and stronger, but doesn't have the cool factor look.
I've got a couple stuffed in the jack storage area.

But take a look before you buy. a lot of manufacturers of off-road equipment are starting to design recovery gear with soft shackles in mind so you will see a lot more rounded edges on recovery points etc.

It only takes a few minutes to break the edge if they do have a sharp edge. I'd rather have the soft shackles from a safety standpoint, but those hard shackles sure look good.

That looks like it is only about the size of a shackle pin. Soft shackle probably won’t fit. Speaking of cool if you like spending money I recall seeing someone that designed shackles for the Bronco that look like horse shoes that might look cool.

I just went out to look at the recovery points and they do seem somewhat sharp. I suppose I'll use the soft shackles for the rear bumper recovery points and pick up the SITH or the Gear America shackles for the front. Thanks everyone....Happy New Year's Eve!

I would assume that opening behind the shackle pin hole is designed to be used with a soft shackle. Doesn’t that opening go all the way through? If so that has to be what it is for.
