I’m gonna take delivery of a defective hard top with 2 understandings:

Ford is sending me a replacement, free of charge, once the problem is fixed.

I have a VIN for a 4 door, and it’s only about $700 for the top. I’m not letting an optional $700 part derail my new vehicle.

With that said, the software bugs are a deal beaker if it pans out.

Define "defective".

Scratched and poorly finished, sure.
Entire top breaking in half at the mold join, no.

I've always been fine with the gray honeycomb/carbon fiber MIC hardtop interior, even though some did not care for that look. I'd even be fine with some cosmetic irregularities on the interior surface, because yeah I'd be using it for off-roading and getting beaten up a bit anyway.

But the images of delamination/gaps and unsealed edges on some hardtop panels, that I would not want. Longer term that sort of stuff spells trouble with water/dirt getting inside the gaps, freezing etc. I put canoes and stuff directly on my Jeep hardtop with foam blocks, it has to be structurally sound and stay that way over time.

Well there's only one guy showing software issues. I think every car I have owned has had some little software stuff that was easily fixed by turning the car on and off again. The guy in the vid got the warnings and just kept going 😂

It’ll never happen, but if Ford offered a defective MIC as a temporary option until they could get you a replacement, would you take it in order to get your Bronco sooner?
the cost to deliver the tops to the dealers or the customer would be cost prohibitive. much easier to keep the cars at the plant and fix the work before release. chances more tops would be damaged in the freight delivery than would be delivered in perfect condition, thus making all the efforts for nothing...

What people don't realize is that they will not knowingly send out defective tops. With all the issues with this release ford doesn't want to be known as the car company that will send out shit parts just to get the bronco out. That's what landrover is for

I hear ya on the "tomorrow" thing and not waiting around as if living forever. While not ideal, I'd give an imperfect top some thought. Only I'm probably so far back in line, hopefully these issues are worked out by then.

I'm still surprised as someone else questioned, why Ford doesn't have a 2-door soft top. I mean it seems a natural for the type of vehicle and revenue source, why lose that to other companies.

Composite parts with “cosmetic” defects can just as easily have unseen structural problems. And tops are kind of important from a safety standpoint. Not worth the headache. Literally.
