Supposedly it's 10 times worse than the Advanced Fiberglass top, that never made it into production.

The MIC top was produced to be tough and protect you from an accident, like say rolling over stones. But the Key Exterior Integrated Thermal Hatch top is a far better top for surviving a DUI! ;)

Sal, welcome to the forum.

The MIC hardtops have quite a history and are the brunt of much sarcasm and a hot topic here. 100% of the very early ones were recalled and replaced. It’s not uncommon at all for the current ones to develop cracks around the side windows or rear window And to a lesser extent on top. If they develop cracks, its generally fairly quickly, within the first few thousand miles or less. Our bronco was delivered as a convertible. We decided we wanted a hardtop and bought one when Ford offered them by invitation . Ours has 14k miles and nary a problem. I personally think the issue is in the manufacturing process as many are like me, problem free, and many others not so much. Whether it’s a poor design, a difficult design to manufacture or or sloppy quality control, who knows. Irregardless, Ford should have fixed it by now. Just keep and eye on yours.

Take care.

The issues of cracking, delamination, rippling and honey combing are still occurring with the 2024's.

Somebody's gotta defend the poor MIC top....

Apparently, surface spiderweb type cracking has been well documented by many. And to what extent that indicates more than just an aesthetic problem vs. an integrity of the whole top problem I can only say this:

In developing my own custom top hoist system in my shop - I accidentally dropped my 2Dr mic top onto the concrete not once, but TWICE. Once from about 4 feet in the air. The 2nd time from about 6 feet in the air!!

I swear my heart stopped the first time this happened. Instantly screamed, "FUUUUDDDDDGGGGE!!!! (only I didn't say "fudge")" Thought, "great. there goes about 6 grand"

BUT....Not only did the MIC top survive - not even the glass cracked. The only scar I have to show from both incidents is the top right corner caught my toolbox on the 2nd fall and did take a pretty good knick out of the material about 2 inches long. But it's on the top and as high as my Bronco sits - only NBA players would probably ever even see it.

Also - there is a thread here from a couple years ago from an owner who suffered a high speed multiple rollover during an accident on the highway. Pics included. The thing I found most interesting about looking at those photos was that his Bronco was pretty much an unidentifiable twisted ball of aluminum....except for the MIC top. Which was still completely intact.

So, ya, I get it.....it's an easy target to poke fun at the surface cracks on some MIC tops. But joking aside - apparently the MIC top is built like a Sherman tank!!

And, after what I've witnessed, I'd bet my life on it.
