Actually, the holiday season affects all industries, not just auto. Christmas especially because of the back to back holidays with NYE. Lots people on vacations, it's a slow down, not business as usual

Definitely affects my work. And it affected all the people building car parts in the factories in Warren where i grew up
Fellow Ohioan, Warren is lovely this time of year.

Same dealer. But has 10k markup. I’m waiting for a soft top, actually contemplated two orders as the hardtop was our first choice but I wanted it before 2023.
Hmm, that's lame. They are willing to have you wait to pay MSRP, instead of a guaranteed sale now. The problem is there are MSRP Broncos out there now. They are risking losing your business completely.

I think I know the answer, but the 10k markup makes me hesitant.
I ordered a soft top wildtrack, Sasquatch, luxury package 2 weeks ago. Just got a call that my exact package (with hardtop and towing) the builder backed out, build starts 12/20 with VIN # and 2022. BUT 10k markup. Go for it or wait it out?

I originally wanted the hardtop but was told to order the soft if I wanted it anytime later next year.

Thoughts?
So, take it now... or wait a year? If you can afford to pay the $10k, then take it now.

In the meantime, don't cancel your recent order. If it comes in, in less than a year, you might still sell it for a bit over MSRP.

personally i would wait... As more Broncos get out there it will be harder to get people to pay the mark up..

would I pay 10k to have a bronco 2-12 months sooner?

No...

but Im not you, maybe your filthy rich and 10k means nothing. because then, sure, I would do it.

I think theres a decent chance a soft top order could get built in Q1 though.

Paying ADM is guaranteed vehicle depreciation paid in advance. Once Ford starts to catch up with the demand, all Broncos will sell as MSRP or less and anything you paid on ADM is gone. The only way that isn't true is if Ford significantly increases the price on new Broncos. So, the question is, do you want to burn $10K to get it sooner?

This is the best course of action. If the OP wants a HT and settled for the ST on their order, they would likely pay at least $4k for a HT from the parts counter.
That was my thought. I still have to pay for the Hard Top and Tow Package. $5k. So what's another $5k to get it in two months? HUM!!

I think you can talk them down. I wouldn't pay the 10k. But at 3-5K, then it is a wash. No one will be buying a MIC top from the parts counter for less than 3k. I bumped the price to 4k as it will require "installation" along with freight shipping. Now, if you have a trailer, you can pick up the top to take home and save the installation. But no dealer is going to let a customer muscle around the top and install it on their property and expose themselves to liability. It will cost 2 service techs an hour labor.

If they don't want to budge on their arbitrary ADM, then hold fast to your existing order.

Take the WT now and have fun with it. You would have had to spend $3k buying a hardtop when available in 2023 and would have to drive with a noisy softtop for a long time. Go for it and maybe try and guilt them down one or two thousand?

I have some swamp land in Louisiana for sale if you want it. It's not above sea level but it's available now with no haggle.
Do mallards use it in the fall and winter months?

the above is the key right here...

OP wants the hard top in 2-3 years when available over the counter for (and I agree on the estimated price) $4000. Ordered it only adds like $700 I think. that is $3300 credit right there, so the ADM is now actually $6700 (plus tax on that amount), you get a hard top before mid to late 2023 and get what you want now. That has value. Plus it might be a year until he sees his build, who the hell knows?

If OP can talk them down to $5K, then it is in reality $1700 ADM because you get the hard top now instead of paying big bucks in two or three years. $1700 to get a hard top now vs a soft top in maybe a year and maybe getting the hardtop he wants two years after that... It would be foolish not to consider making a counter offer to the dealer.

Thank you for the breakdown and feedback. Very much appreciated.

I think if you're not leaping at the chance to eat the depreciation hit, this is a gamble worth taking. I still have dealers calling to try to sell me mannequins at $10k+ mark ups that I inquired about months ago. Seems they aren't all getting the big paydays they were hoping for the day they were able to be sold. Many are, I'm sure, but yours might not. I would expect if you try to talk them down, they'll say they'll get back to you and shop it around for a bit, while hoping you get anxious and cave.

It really comes down to how badly you want it your oompaloompa now, how important the MIC is to you, etc. I had to weigh all of this myself as well before altering my order to get it sooner. I ditched the MIC and towing, and got a build date the following build-scheduling week. By the time it's built, I'll have a few months of winter left, so the top isn't much of a concern until the end of next summer. Should have some "reasonably"-priced options by then ... I hope. (It's all hope with this vehicle it seems)

Either way, good luck!

Agreed with the good advice on this thread, make an offer you feel comfortable with and tell them you will take it right now. 3 to 5k over sounds about right in your situation. Who knows when you will get your order anyway.
