I'm moving from Wisconsin to Alaska in my 22' 2Dr Base with OEM steelies. I was originally thinking of trailering my Tenere 700 but I started to get adverts for trailer hitch motorcycle carriers.

Has anyone used them? Do they fit with the rear spare? Should I just stick to my original plan of trailering? I know the Bronco can pull a uHaul trailer with a 2021 BMW GSA set up for distance riding without issue and my Tenere is like 1/2 the weight of the GSA.

Even if you pulled the spare to create a gap so the bars don't hit the rear window, the centerline of the bikes wheels is pretty far from the hitch. The farther you are from the hitch the more the capacity is reduced. Bouncing along the long ALCAN, you might be inviting a problem. If the max tongue weight on your hitch is 350, going 12" out you're looking at a reduction to at least 175lbs.

I bought one of the hitch carriers to try it out on my BMW R1100S, just sitting in the garage it was super sketchy. I returned the carrier.

My opinion is that a trailer is your best bet.

Thanks, everyone! I was leary about these to begin with and now I'm sure I don't want one.

When I did the ALCAN in the 70s, there was a 1000 miles of gravel. Looks like it’s mostly paved now. Check out The Milepost https://themilepost.com/ for a travel guide.

And watch out for mosquitoes. They get so big, they use them for drilling oil.

Hey, I have experience with a hitch carrier. Admittedly I used a Harbor Freight one so Im sure there are higher quality solutions.

Ultimately I decided a small trailer serves the purpose better and feels a lot less sketchy to me.
