Trail turn assist worth while for an overland rig?

So, you would take the crawl ratio over trail turn assist for overlanding.

It really depends on the trails on which you plan to overland. If you look up fun trails in places you want to travel to and find that there are a ton of steep switchbacks, then TTA would be a gamechanger for you, but it's not necessary.

10 speeds are both beastly and unstable from my reads.

From a few years of stomping the piss out of my gas pedal with one, it is not. Also, unimproved roads to hunting spots covered in snow never demanded more of my lowly F150 4WD than it could supply. Some slipping, but nothing that needed a Bronco.

I’m only getting an automatic because my wife said so. If I had the choice between stick and TTA, I’d take the stick every time, every day.

I asked my wife after showing her the videos and she said I'd be happier with the manual despite her probably never driving it due to the transmission (like I was ever going to let her anyway, lol).

In terms of your question I think trail turn is a feature that (for me) ranks high on cool factor but lower on usefulness and much lower on requirement. I think it’s likely most folks will end up using it on the beach or in parking lots for fun. Theyll be doing Bronco Donuts! Or is it Bronuts?

Most trails do not require 3 point turns.... and most 3 point turns I know about are on mountain switchbacks or in very tight woods. Where frankly there’s even less chance I’d be using a feature like that where there was any risk of slipping over a ledge. The bronco is small enough that you’re never not going to make it through a trail without it.

To me I would absolutely not give up my preference for how I want to drive every single day for a feature i would probably use very rarely for fun and absolutely need in a real situation almost never. But yes it would be cool to show off with it the first few times in the desert in the middle of nowhere.

Now I’m not arguing whether manual is better than auto. But for me a manual is about much more than some tight turning feature that solves a relatively rare situation for me that I can always get out of anyway, even though I think it’s definitely cool watching the bronco do it and I like that Ford is innovating.

Definitely not necessary for 99% of “over landing” type activities at all. Consider that no other vehicles that people overland with have it and do just fine. I also think a manual bronco is cooler than auto with trail turn, if going purely by cool factor.

Depending on the terrain I think these are possible. If you’re on high grip terrain it’s definitely not “good” for the bronco. But on loose surfaces it should be fine, but yes may rut specific trails but I’m not really sure. We haven’t seen an example not in the sand yet.

I see TTA as nothing more than a "neat trick." I have no problem making multi-point turns if needed.

Think of it this way, unless you are on a moto, or ATV tail, somebody with a JKU or an FJ has made it down the trail before, without TTA.

I am curious and hopeful that TTA will be useful. If it makes a 4 door feel more like a 2 door on the tight PNW trails then I am going to love it. I would not use the term need per say, as its been pointed out you can pull an Austin Powers turn.

ATRAC is a good example for me, its not needed but I like it and use it every off roading trip. This is because if don't have to use the the locker as much and increase my turn radius.

If it's like CRAWL control on Toyota I find it to be nearly useless and rarely used. While it defiantly can do things you can't do without it I find those situations very rare.

To me it’s just a fun feature but in my option not really that necessary. Could be helpful getting around some trees in tight wooded trails though I suppose. Still not neat enough of a feature for me to drop the 7-Spd.

This is going to be the first vehicle I buy that is an automatic, for me that's driven by off roading and rock crawling.

If the feature will be useful is unknown. I think for overlanding its less likely to be useful because it tends to be less technical and have larger vehicles in the group.

If you want a manual I say get a manual!

One thing I'm wondering about TTA that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is this:
Does TTA also function in Reverse?

If so, could make it particularly useful for trying to turn around on a tight trail.
