If people are going to take them off road, they definitely are going to pick up some scuffs and scratches. In my case it was a rock from a semi pinging off of it.
Spray the can onto some cardboard and use a very small touch up paint brush. I use flat black rust oleum. It is a close enough match if you use a very small brush. I would try a satin or flat and see what matches better.surely there must be a better solution than spraying it with a rattle can.
I just was hoping to avoid having to take a piece off to bring into a paint shop for color analysis.
this is the way, sounds stupid but does the trick. especially bumpers/hitches that are scratched/rust.
To add to your comment, a brush like these work awesome for touch up paint. Had helped me get some chips covered up in the past.
How did your touch-up adventure go?
What did you end up using? Flat black? Satin black?It did ok'ish. Definitely far from perfect, but the color is close enough that nobody has ever noticed. i probably could wetsand it to get things a bit closer, but it hasn't been a priority.
