Thin Underside Paint + Time = Rust?

Is it just me or does it look like the paint booth was almost out of paint when they got to the underside of the Bronco?

Since I live in a metro area with both a plentiful salt mine and freezing temperatures for much of the year, I get to experience the joy of iron oxide (aka rust).

I had a wonderful dealership experience with no mention of TruCoat, but I wonder if I would have been better off with it after looking at all the wonderful salt under there.
