The floor switch for high beam is possibly my favorite old gadget on my ‘74. That and the windshield wipers.
I really miss my vacuum wipers on my 55 Chevy, had to let up on the gas going up a grade in the rain to make them wipe LOL

Is the lack of a floor mounted high beam switch.

Cruising down the road at night, you see a car coming, with a little flick of the foot “klu-chinnnnng” low beams. A few seconds later, without changing your grip on the wheel “Lou-chinnnng” high beams again.

Anybody else with me on this?
well, hell; why stop there? Let's go full transit bus and add similar floor-mounted buttons for turn signals, too...

I *loved* the floor dimmer on the cars I learned to drive on. Hate the stalk switches.

I suppose it's cheaper to make, but the floor switch was much more convenient to me.
Maybe it might be cheaper to make, but the floor switch is cheaper and easier to replace than a Honda stalk switch control arm.

Of course the high-beam switch should be on the floor - so when someone is approaching you with his high beams on you can show him by stomping on that floor switch to give him your high beams. It just feels good. Come on - all of us old-timers know what I am talking about and miss not being able to do that anymore. :)

Do vehicles even have dimmer switches anymore? Might as well put them back in the floor. It’s not like anyone can figure out how to use them were they are anyway.

I, for one, would LOVE to have the high beam button back in the world.

ain’t gonna happen

and the youngins already don’t like me because I said the current pics all look the same.

so don’t look to me for affirmation - I’m a liability here

??

I was thinking the biggest design oversight was a floating compass and a suicide knob.
I think that’s “necker” knob

a knob on the steering wheel allowing one armed usage?

my old man, class of 58, taught me that’s a necker knob. Drive with the left arm while your girl is cozied up next to you under your right arm

makes sense once folks remember that the seats in old cars were a long single bench, like a couch

Most of the vehicles I have owned had em on the floor. However I only have one at the moment that runs and and drives, the Eagle.

One could easily setup a switch for a lightbar down there. Im thinking one switch to turn on 350 inches of various led lightbars!

Back in the mid-70's, my step-father's work van crapped out, and we didn't have a lot of spare change. He purchased the most stripped-down Chevy C10 pickup he could find. Actually worked well. The only issue was no power steering. That's the first time I was introduced to a suicide knob -- my Lord! was that steering hard at low speed. My step-father had forearms like Popeye's and good upper body strength, but even he resorted to a knob as the first accessory!

Sounds dandy, but auto high beams seem to work quite well. At least they do, in my wife's truck.
