Appreciate the offer.. I was in the Springs in June for our Combat Vets Motorcycle Association national meeting. I met up with an old soldier buddy who now works at the VA. They may be my legs on the ground.

Thanks Brother for the post! It definitely brought back memories. I was a USAF Reserve C-130 Navigator and remember that accident like it was yesterday. It was a sad day for all the C-130 crews Air Force wide. RIP Brothers!

Update - got a reply from the unit today. They have a master sergeant (E7 in Air Force lingo?) Who knew the crew back in the day. He knows the family and asked me to mail the tag and a letter to him, and he'll get it to them.
I'll write up a letter and get it mailed this week. I'll post if anything further to add.

Yup, e7 master , e8 senior master, e9 chief master. When I was in we changed bdus three times, name tapes / rank, pinger patch, pinger patch and rank, then back to name tapes / rank as I was leaving ( guess that’s four times). We also changed the stripes for the senior enlisted from 6 down /2 up to 5 down/ 3 up. I was at a joint service deployment and had a marine unit we worked with, I got pulled in as a buck sergeant ( another thing that disappeared) to explain to their top enlisted how it all worked. After some exasperation he asked “ what do you call your chief if unit, Chief?, senior master???” To which I replied “Bill”. Yep, there were a few differences between branches lol.

I mailed off the dog tag today along with a short letter to the family. I also got an email from the MSgt to whom I mailed it. He will update me when he is able to present it to the family. Says he was speechless when he heard I'd found the dog tag. He was apparently very good friends with Michael and was originally supposed to be on the flight...

UPDATE - well, a couple updates... I met with the Facebook site administrator last week. He was driving through and offered to give me a flag to place back at the memorial site. We chatted briefly. He is retired army too.

Today I got an email from the MSgt in Colorado. He gave the dog tag and my little to the parents last week. They were very appreciative and emotional, as one could imagine. Says they will be reaching out to me. Thanked me for caring.
Will update when I have more. We may put the new flag out this weekend.

Another update - got back from the Boise Bronco club ride today and had a nice note from Michael's parents on the mail. They invited us to Colorado Springs to meet them. They'd like to thank us personally. The gears are turning... trying to figure out when we can get out there.
