Anyone know if Ford dealers can/will do speedo recalibration?
I'm getting a base, but upgrading to 32-33" tires immediately and want the speedo re-calibrated.
I've looked at tools from Rough Country/Hypertech/etc. for the Ranger but they all say they can't be used in CA.

Is this because they won't work, or just "not allowed"?

I suppose it's not a huge issue initially if they are just not allowed, since a new bronco won't need a SMOG test for eight years here...

Thoughts?

I would think the dealers would/should do that. Hell, I bet they chomp at the bit to do it, and charge some stupid amount to do it. In which case, I'd just leave the gps radar detector on the dash and let it be the speedo. :)

I'm not that concerned about how fast I'm going, it's more for the transmission to shift right and not be confused about the actual speed and RPM.

My dealer says they do not have the capability to do speedo changes, confirmed with the Performance shop they farm things out to. I have yet to hear someone who actually talked to a dealer, have different info.

I would guess, that you will need aftermarket tuner, but the performance guy, said that is not a given now either, with the way the new CPU's are.

Hmm...sounds like dealer BS honestly. It's easy to do on the new Rangers.

I would suspect adjustments to the speedo would be somewhat regulated. If it were not you could use it to alter the odometer reading. It can be done at a dealership but will be documented just as it would be if the ecu were replaced where the mileage is stored.

Not at all. Adjusting tire diameter in the car is regular and standard kit. I can do it on my Jeep with an over the counter device that also lets me change things like curtesy lighting and mph/km changes.

It’s not that your altering mileage readings, you’re correcting the Speedo calculation so things are *more* accurate.

Any attempt to misrepresent mileage would take 10s of thousands of miles, and even then it wouldn’t be far enough from reality for it to change the value of the vehicle in a meaningful way.

Most likely the Ford performance tune will have the capability to make changes to tire size, gearing, etc. Will probably also be able to be done via forscan. I did this on my last vehicle when I switched to winter tires that were slightly smaller.

Fare enough. I just know from my dealership experience that we had to documented anything that involved the mileage capture. I don't know the regs in all locals. I guess we just have to trust people won't use it to under record milage.

Everyone keeps saying they are sure we can, but not a single person seems to have asked their dealer. Yes you can do it on tons of cars now, but times they are a changing. Jeep just released the ability to adjust at the dealership for the JL's recently I believe.

I would love to proven wrong on this, and keep hoping someone gets a different answer from their dealer. I think I might switch from BD to Base, and I most certainly hope its as simple as everyone thinks it will be.
