Soft top choices

We have the default vinyl soft top with the crinkled windows, the Backflip, Soft Canvas for $1650 extra or the Canvas Soft Top and Mesh Shade Top for $2000.
In Accessories at the bottom of the B&P the Top, Retractable, Twill, Soft, Full Roof, 2-Door by Bestop is listed for $2229 (they have a typo and this is for the four door.

I would like a hard top but don't want to wait an extra year for it. So do I get the cheaper default vinyl top or one of the other choices? What are the differences? Which is better and why?

Can I install a roof rack with any of these choices?

The OEM Ford soft top is canvas(?) not vinyl. Just the windows are vinyl. If you purchase the optional Bestop top shown in the accessories, I am 99% sure that it does not replace the Ford soft top, it is in addition too. So then you would have 2 soft tops.

No external roof racks are yet available for the soft top. 4wp had previewed one on their build but it appears to have gone back to the design table (see the Red 4wp build on 37's). There are internal roof rack options that will only work with the soft top lowered so their use is limited (see the VB build with surf boards that all Californians were complaining about being loaded and secured wrong).

As far as the quality and make-up of the OEM soft top, I like it and don't terribly mind the rear windows. They were built like that to allow the lifting of the rear to better access the cargo hold. As many people have complained about them, I am sure the aftermarket will eventually offer replacements that are either solid plastic (plexiglass or acrylic(?)) or possibly glass.

I am liking the soft top as it allows me to go topless in a few minutes and then cover back up quickly when out and about if I am parked in the sun or if it looks like rain.

what about the canvas top with mesh shade that's listed? How's it better than the default Ford top?

Hmm, I may have shot first and asked questions later with regards to the tops being additional and you getting 2 soft tops (good thing I left myself that 1% out). I haven't been on B&P in months so I just jumped and seen that the tops you mentioned are listed under Roofs and not Accessories. However, there are still some Bestop options listed in accessories that will net you 2 tops.

So it looks like for MY22 that there will be a canvas option. The Canvas Soft Top and Shade looks to be the optional canvas top + the bimini shade.

It does make it seem that the new canvas top is the same style as the current cloth just different materials. Not sure which one will be better over time but on face value you think canvas would be more durable than cloth. But if you are going to eventually go hardtop, I would just opt for the cheapest version and put that $1650 towards that future hardtop.

I may be wrong, and B&P isn't showing any pix for me with this, but I think the canvas top is a fastback style top.
